Raw Bar Is Great, Hot Seafood Is Good But Not Great. I think a couple of the negative reviews are ridiculous and mean spirited. I live in Philly and have dined here many times. This place is NOT smelly or dirty, although one time the Men's Room was less than "fresh." Anyhow, the fish and seafood is quite good if you know what to order. Have broiled not fried! The great feature are the raw clams and oysters which are wonderful ... special prices during happy hour (4 - 6 PM weekdays; 2 - 4 PM weekends). The Rappahannock oysters from Virginia are GORGEOUS! This is not a fancy nor elegant place, it appeals to serious fish and seafood lovers like myself. Please don't order anything breaded or fried, though, those items are mediocre.

Couldn't stay long enough to order- smelled terrible!. I walked in with my boyfriend looking for some cheap, tasty seafood. Instead, the smell of dead fish was so overpowering that I had to leave within 5 minutes- we walked up third street to Dmitri's and found, to our surprise, the prices at Snockey's had been higher!

Terrible. Not sure what people are smoking giving this place a good review. The place is absolutely terrible. The oysters are not bad, but who can eat in that lousy atmosphere of dirty dishes? Ive seen dive bars cleaner than this place. How can a place not take any pride in its appearance? The patrons in there were either 100 years old or derelict look-alikes. I am sad and ashamed that the city doesnt have a solid Oyster House. I guess I have to wait until summer to go to NJ. By the way, 4.00 Miller Lites between 4-7 is a disgrace too. I wouldnt go back there if the food were free.

I'm Loving This Place!. Snockey's offers great seafood at fantastic prices. Not quite sure why some people are complaining about the place unless they are expecting something other than what the name clearly states...Snockey's Oyster & Crab House. I've been going to Snockey's for almost 30 years...since I was a teenager and I have always had a delicious meal whether it's the raw oysters (Fanny Bays, Peacock Cove, etc..typically 6 to 12 varieties are available everyday...the Long Island Salts are my favorite), one of Chef Lewis' seafood pasta specials, the hardshell crabs, softshell crabs, etc. or just to hang out during their Clammy Hour for unbelievable clam and oyster pricing as well as the drink specials while watching the Eagles on their plasma tv. Real food with real people.

should have went to joe's crab shack insted. We found snockey's driving by. My fiance said he would really like to try the place out. So we first looked it up online. The first reviews we saw were good ( should have read the rest). Let's just say the only real good thing about the experience was the beer that came in a bottle. I'm origianally from New England and grew up on the best and freshest seafood ever so maybe i'm a bit particular about my seefood, but damn. I got the clams w/ linguiny because they were all out of 1lb lobsters. My fiance got the small crabs because they were all out of any other size crab. Also out of corn on the cob & greenbeans, go figure. I got served first, my fiance about 5-8 minutes after. Who does that, serves one person whithout the other. The food was not very fresh, bland, and just frankly not that good. The man that sat us was explaining it was their 96th year of being open. At this rate I can't see them making a 97th. We are all for mom & pop shop's, family owned places, but unfortunatly we will not return nor recommend it to anyone we like. Maybe if the prices where cut in half , naaah it would still remain a disapointment for us, but hey try it for youself.

Chesapeake Bay Oysters!. I am a regular at Snockey's and last night my boyfriend and I had the best oysters ever. Chesapeake Bay oysters were very meaty and only 75 cents each! What a deal. The steamed clams were really good too! A bowl of yummy lobster bisque completed the night! All the staff was very friendly last night. On our last experience, we experienced bad service- but last night made up for it. My boyfriend's cousin was not too impressed with the shrimp cocktail- the shrimp were rather whimpy! Besides that, very good experience. Did I mention the $1.99 Moosehead between 4-6 M-F. They also have weekend happy hours. Early bird specials until 5:30 are also really good!

Great Oysters!. My wife and I tried Snockey's when we visited Philly recently for the Tut Exhibit. We were intrigued by the fact that it was a family-owned neighborhood seafood reataurant established around the turn of the century. We had a feast that we will long remember. It does look it's age but in a classic way. You can watch your oysters being shucked at the old-fashioned white ceramic-tiled bar (where I recommend you take a seat and enjoy the experience). Ken Snockey, the original owner's grandson, was a great host. The oysters-on-the-half-shell were excellent and offered a chance to compare different types (I tried all 7 available that evening). Ken even gave us each a side of pickeled slaw that was always served back-in-the-day as an accompaniment to any oyster dish. The fried oysters, while larger than I expected, were also excellent. The chowder is from Grandma's recipe and was thick with clams. While we were there I heard many customers tell Ken how much they enjoyed the food as they were leaving. Two couples were old customers who moved away and came back by for the excellent food. They remarked that it was just as good now as they remembered it. If you like the Acme in New Orleans and similar places then you'll love Snockey's. No glamour, just good oysters and seafood. Enjoy!

Iffy seafood. We tried Snockey's because it's in the neighborhood and we wanted raw oysters. We got the 12-oyster sampler and it was not good. The Chincoteagues were off, tasting like an old gym sock. The others were just flavorless. None tasted fresh. We also got lobster tail, which apparently had been frozen before it was cooked. It was tough and chewy. The potatoes that came with it were a bit underdone, but basically fine. We didn't get dessert, but we heard the waitress telling the family at the next table that they were out of everything but chocolate cake. Also, the back room where we sat was dark and windowless, with nearly undecorated white walls. It's disappointing because it would have been great to have a good seafood place so close to home. Apparently some people love Snockey's for oysters and beer at the bar, but we'll never go there again.

Not Clean. I went to dinner here last night with my family and we were VERY disappointed with the restaurant. The place was filled with clutter, dirty and there was no air conditioner working. There was 1 ceiling fan running and it only had 2 blades on it - at least 3 blades were missing??? We sat at our table only to be fighting the flys who kept flying around our faces. The stewed tomatoes were DRY, the skinned potatoes were dripping with grease, the broccoli my sister was eating had a fly in it and the shrimp cocktail was warm! My Mom's Birthday dinner was a BUST ! This place needs a good CLEANING! Our waitress was nice.
