In Short
A small cafe in the back of a health foods store offers cafeteria-like ambience and a pay-by-the-pound buffet. A sampling of Essene's macrobiotic and vegan food can be crafted fairly easily, resulting in a fine taste of cultures (tofu curry, lasagna, burritos) and proteins (tempeh, tofu, lentils). Lentil cakes are topped with cranberry sauce; tofu satay is served cold in a light peanut sauce; and vegan variations on sushi.
