Federal's has been baking pure-carb wares for mostly street vendors who, in turn, hock them in paper bags on sidewalks throughout town. Predawn hours bring wholesale and retail buyers (the latter often road trip here after a night of partying). Says one name-tagged clerk, "When we sell out, we close." That's usually a little after noon.

These pretzels are my favorite. My boyfriend Randy and I eat two or three at a time! They are the only food that keeps me going during the day as the food at my job stinks. Yumy -B Diggs

My day always began with a soft pretzel and a cup of coffee. The kids enjoy them at recess and for an after school treat. I bring them to tailgates and when I take a road trip to visit family and friends that have been jonesing for a taste of South Philly. Highly recommended!
