In Short – This corner taproom is as inviting as a cabin or lodge in the woods. Its interior, featuring a short wooden bar and a room of small tables and booths, makes for a cozy post-work or late-night respite from the work week. Regulars watch sports or catch up on their reading at the bar as they sip pints. Groups gather in the booths to down pitchers and feed dollars into the jukebox (featuring everything from Etta James to Sonic Youth).

THE definition of a "neighborhood bar"

by ElBombero

Doobie's is unquestionably my favorite bar in Philadelphia. They have a great beer selection, and a very knowledgeable staff. Marko behind the bar is one of the coolest bartenders I've ever had the pleasure to meet. The food is always good, and it leans towards the vegetarian. It's kind of a hip, open-minded atmosphere...with ZERO pretense. I've tipped many a beer here and ran into all kinds of people...and everyone's welcome at Doobie's. It has an old, "lived-in", neighborhood bar feel...but it is NOT dirty.

Doobie's will never be the "IT" place to be...and that's what makes it special. They don't try to be something they're not...and in that, they reach a level most bars could only hope to be.

  • Pros: beer selection, attentive staff, great crowd
  • Cons: if you don't "get it" you might not like it

strangely beloved

by Kcphila

Doobie's isn't a bad bar, it just isn't worthy of the near cult following it has in the GHA. I guess I'm too young to remember when there wasn't much besides Irish dives, and maybe Doobie's stood out then but to my 22 year old eyes it just isn't much.

The service is friendly, affable...and mostly incompetent.

The prices are ok, but there's a lot of bars pretty competitive with Doobie's prices that are nicer.

The menu is pretty limited with strangely pretentious options.

Again, not a bad bar...but within easy walking distance of Bob & Barbs, Tirtone, Sidecar and Grace...4 of the best bars in the city. Needless to say, it's unusual that I make it into Doobie's. Usually all four of those other bars in the area have to be PACKED (not uncommon on the weekends)- although Doobie's itself is often pretty full.

  • Pros: neighborhood establishment, you'll meet your neighbors
  • Cons: prices aren't competitive, bad interior, unimpressive food, clueless staff

Best Friendly Bar

by elsahats

I have been going in Doobies for more than 3yrs and I must confess that is a very friendly and cozy environment. I had the chance to meet Marko the bartender and from him to make friends with the neighborhood. I think the place is great for people who are new in town.

  • Pros: meet people, service, food and drinks
  • Cons: parking

The Details on Doobie's

Know Before You Go:

Regulars are a tight-knit bunch--don't be put off by a cold shoulder or two.

On The Menu:

Four taps pour the usual suds--Lager, Guinness, cider--but Doobies rotates in seasonal beers from local breweries such as Flying Fish and Victory. The kitchen features a menu of better-than-average pub fare, but be sure to try one of Doobie's signature burgers.
