Reviewing the Reviews.
Anyone else notice that none of the people giving negative reviews have a frickin' clue how to spell??
Kudos to the dude that was surprised his sandwiches were 'soggy' after he drove them to D.C. wtf is wrong with you???
wonderful cheesesteak. traveled from Columbus, Ohio and a friend took us there and said it was the best, I tried it and it was pile high steak . I will diffently go there again.
I Found Larry's By Accident. What a treat! I've done the South Street thing many times, but when I had a convention to attend in the Adams Mark and didn't really want to drive all the way into Philly to grab me a sandwich, I just drove and found Larry's. As authentic as it gets, with out the tourist trap. THIS is what a sandwich shop should be. Old, established, experienced, and excellent. 5 stars all the way.
Worse taste in philly. The WORSE service (after pats and genos) comes from the staff at Larrys steaks......it felt like they were doing me and my friends a favor for patronize them........the meat was DRY no TASTE to it they had 30 pounds of meat on the griddle (unlike other places in philly where they make their steaks one at time) i will never spent another dime there......i feel sorry for SJU students if thats their only choice around campus.
Best Steaks In Philly. This place has the best cheese steaks in all Philly, forget those tourist places Geno's and Pat's. Both bad reviews on here don't even make any sense. Of course something will be soggy if you drive all the way back to DC with it.... And I have never gotten a dry steak from there and I live down the street and go all the time. I have also never had a problem with them "not speaking English." They have great service and a nice atmosphere. They even have a giant TV in there for everyone to watch... Not to forget to mention once again.. their cheese steaks.
ARE YOU KIDDING?.
ANYONE WHO GIVES THIS PLACE A GOOD REVIEW REALLY HAS - NO - TASEBUDS.
THIS HAD TO BE THE WORST CHEESESTEAK I HAVE - EVER - EATEN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
IT WAS DRY AND HAD - NO!!!!!! FLAVOR. I WAS IN DOWNTOWN PHILLY AND DROVE 10 MILES TO GET THERE ONLY TO BE TREMENDOUSLY DISAPOINTED. I COULD GO TO D'ANGELOS OR QUIZNOS OR ACTUALLY ANYWHERE ELSE AND GET A BETTER SANDWICH!!!!!!!!!!
ABSOLUTELY DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME!!!!! NOT RECOMMENDED!!!!!!!!!!1
West Philly's answer to South Philly's cheesesteak..
In Short
Open since 1956, Larry's attracts mostly neighborhood locals and St. Joe's students for the ultimate cheesesteak experience. When they're feeling brave--or just really hungry--customers go for the gold: Larry's famous "belly filler." At about 18 inches long and 9 inches in circumference, this extra-large cheesesteak proves that size really does matter. Unlike South Philly steak shops that douse the steaks with Cheese Whiz, Larry's standard is real American.
Not to be missed. This was MY place for cheesesteaks growing up, and I still must have one every time I'm back in Philly. It's MUCH cleaner than it used to be, and the staff is much more business-like, but the food is as good as ever. Chicken cheese steaks here are as good as the regular ones.
The BEST!!. In town for a show, I took my wife and son to Larry's. One bellyfiller for my 16-year old, one for my missus and I to split. I barely got through my half and look over and my son's is GONE! He says, "That was good." I asked if he wanted more and he said, "Yes." Regular cheesesteak this time and he hammered that! The next day, we went back for the same ritual only this time, my wife said, "Time him to see how long it takes." Seven minutes, forty-seven seconds later, he had demolished another Larry's Belly Filler Cheesesteak and THEN hit another regular after that. Talk about the frivolity of youth! We'll be back in November! See you then!
Not For Out of Towners. I went to Larry's on the recommendation of a friend and knowing I could get my sandwiches "TO GO" and back safely to D.C. I placed the order for 6-7 subs, all "TO GO". Upon arriving in D.C. and opening the subs the next morning, ALL were soggy, none had the wrap to stop the lettuce & tomato from ruining the bread. VERY, VERY disapointed. I even faxed the restaurant in hopes of hearing from the Manager....NOTHING. Will NOT spend my money there again.
