Editorial Review for North Star Bar – by Maura Johnston

In Short
Fairmount's prime concert space is a cavernous room that brings to mind a ski lodge; the bar in the back is topped by large windows. The stage is raised so you can see the show from just about anywhere in the bar. On bandless nights, the space transforms into a cozy neighborhood hangout; pool leagues and sports-watchers kick back with beers and chat with friends.

Insider Tips

Save Money

One dollar off "anything drinkable" plus food specials Monday through Friday.

On The Menu

The kitchen pumps out sandwiches that top out at $8.

What to Drink

The ever-changing, reasonably priced selection of drafts is consistently up to par with that available at nearby beer emporia like Bridgid's.

I love this venue! I go to the North Star all the time, it's truly a staple in my favorite rock n roll memories. I've been there for Mudhoney, to DickDale, to Say Anything, Street Dogs and White Stripes. They have honestly grabbed a hold of the rock n roll scene over the past 8 years or so and I hope they don't let go! I'm not going to lie, I like the bar food too. I am a nut for the veggie burger and their homemade fries are amazing! I read a review below about some band member complaining that the staff wasn't nice...and I have to disagree whole heartedly. I am always treated with respect by the doormen, and the bartenders are always working their butts off behind the bar. I never have to wait more than a min for a drink....unless of course it's a guinness .....mmmmm. Did I mention the beer menu ROCKS!?

Pros: hot bartenders, friendly door guys, veggie burgers!

Cons: it could be warmer, some nights i keep my jacket on in the front bar

WE HAD A VERY BAD EXPERIENCE AT THIS ESTABLISHMENT, BUT WHEN WE TRIED TO EXPLAIN IT ON THIS WEBSITE, IT WOULD NOT ALLOW ANY NEGATIVE WORDS. HOPEFULLY THIS WILL WORK. BASICALLY THE MANAGERIAL STAFF WAS DISRESPECTFUL TO BAND MEMBERS WHO WERE SCHEDULED TO PLAY THAT NIGHT. A BAND MEMBER WAS NOT ALLOWED TO RE-ENTER THE BAR BECAUSE HE WAS SMOKING TOO CLOSE TO THE FRONT DOOR. MANY PEOPLE LOST MONEY ON COVER CHARGE AND DRINKS. NEITHER OF WHICH WERE REFUNDED WHEN THE BAND WAS NOT ALLOWED TO RE-ENTER THE BAR. DO NOT PATRONIZE THIS ESTABLISHMENT!
