Best Pizza in Manayunk!. The pizza is by far the best and most authentic pizza in the Philadelphia area. The dough and sauce is made fresh every morning. They throw it in the oven and swirl the sauce around the cheese just like at the Jersey shore. WARNING: If you are a WASP visiting from the South, you probably have grown accustomed to and prefer the southerner pizza AKA pizza soft crust pizza made from refrozen dough with ketchupy Prego sauce and overloaded with bland cheap waxxy shrink cheese like they use in the less savory national chains. Alex's pizza is high quality and real-deal authentic, like the way they make in in the old country, and NOT crappy southern over-Americanized WASP pizza like they rampantly produce in the south. If you are uncultured and have bad taste in pizza, you're better off going to pizza hut. If not, then go to Alex's!

Horrible. We have had a very hard time finding good pizza in Philadelphia since moving here 2 1/2 years ago (Philadelphia does not do pizza well) and Alex's is probably the worst we've had so far. The crust was so rock hard that we couldn't even eat it. We got the steak pizza which seemed to have some sort of ground hamburg on it. There was hardly any sauce or cheese on it. The large pizza was tiny and not filling at all.

If you are from Philadelphia you might like it since the people of Philadelphia seem to have very low standards when it comes to pizza, but if you aren't originally from here, DO NOT go to Alex's. If I could give this place zero stars I would, but you have to give at least one star.

A new twist on an old favorite. One word - Delish

The rumors are true!!!! Alex's original is back.

Having been long-time pizza connoisseurs of the Philadelphia area, we had to confirm for ourselves that the pizza was really back. This is the best pizza that we have had in a long-time. The crust was superb, the sauce was heavenly, and the toppings substantially meaty. We would highly recommend this local gem.

So take it from us, if you're looking for pizza look no further!

Hey to all the dissapointed alex's pizza lovers! I just wanted everyone to know that the pizza is back! One of the original pizza makers just bought the place! It is just like the old days!. The pizza is back to its original recipe, the staff is amazingly friendly! Not like the past six years, it is like going back in time!

Try it, you'll love it

Will Alex's Return to what I Remember. Have lived in the area forty plus years. Been going to Alex's since I was a teen. The original owners back then were friendly, knew your name and gave you efficient service and consistant pies. Gravy was made on premises as was the dough. No Delivery but then it was nearby and not a big deal to go get it. Pies were also the lowest price anywhere in the area. After working overseas for many years I returned to Roxborough about two or three years ago and couldnt wait for my "pie". Very disappointed ! The original owner was long gone as well as all the ole staff. The pie wasn't bad but it wasn't the same. Different recipe or ingredients. The attitude was what turned me away. Twice I called to place an order and after many rings a man came on and shouted " Call Back! " and HUNG UP on me! How rude, The New owners lost my business and not just mine, I've heard they may have given up and sold to someone else. I dont see the same guys in there when I drive by. We'll see how that plays out. Stay tuned for an update.

Good pizza, small town feel. Finally I found a decent pizza place in the area without going into Center City. Not like New York, but still good pizza. Sweet sauce and a fun spiral of sauce and cheese. Hard to park in the area so bring someone to jump out and get it while you wait in the car or drive around the block. No delivery which doesn't help the parking situation any but its tolerable. Friendly people and fast service when you call ahead.

classic pizza place. This place is the classic neighborhood pizza place - cheap, no frills, fresh and absolutely delicious. yes, the staff isn't the nicest in the world, but the final product is what you're there for....and it's absolutely delicious. the pie is always fresh, piping hot, and dirt cheap. if you're having a movie night, or friends over for a low key night, this is the perfect pie. if you're looking for gourmet pizza, then you've got the wrong spot. parking might be tough, but that comes with the neighborhood...just throw your car in an illegal spot for a minute, light up the hazards, get in/ out and you're on your way. last comment is to make sure you call ahead to avoid waiting. enjoy.

Change in recipe??. Alex's had been my favorite pizza in the Philadelphia area for years and each time I was home (I live in Virginia now), I would eagerly await the trek from Fort Washington to Alex's for one of their piping hot delicious pizzas. I was disappointed with my last visit., however. The pizza didn't taste the same. I'm not sure if they changed recipes or owners, but it wasn't as good as it used to be. I'm hoping it was just a fluke or that I caught them on a bad night.

Are we talking about the same place???. This was the worst pizza I have had since I moved here. Too much sauce, which also tasted terrible. The cheese was cheap and too much on it. The dough was not cooked and chewy. The only good thing was it was cheap so I didn't waste that much money. I am still looking for some good pizza in the Roxborough area if anyone has any real suggestions.
