In Short – While Pat's and Geno's slug it out on their corners, the competition comes from Roxborough in the form of a simple little spot at the top of Walnut Lane. The rolls are chewy with a freshness directly related to the amount of customer activity. It's the beef cooked on the fat-seasoned grill that makes the steaks here savory. Toppedwith melted American, the sandwiches ooze cholesterol-laden goodness that will surely cure what ails you.

My Standard

I first went here as a young boy, 20 some years ago. It was my first cheesesteak and defined the standard for all that followed. Nothing on South Street compares.
I'd pick up one on the way to the skating rink and after enough ice, I'd pick up one on the way home. Kept me dancing.
Now, I'm in Costa Mesa, California and there is nothing that even resembles a cheesesteak like Dalessandros! It's like what airlines would come up with for a cheesesteak.

Great steaks

You walk in and you can hear the steak sizzling. The smell just gets your stomache rumbling.
Belly up to the counter and get your order in quickly. Wait time is normal unless its packed. I usually go after the lunch crowd so I can take my time.
Rolls are fresh and high quality, steak is salted perfectly. Not too much cheese.
Its a great steak because all the ingredients are top notch, the flavors are right and it doesnt sit in your stomache like a rock when you're done with it.

dalessandros puts cr@ck in their cheesesteaks which is why they keep me coming back for more. i moved away from philly but i still dream of ordering 2 cheesesteaks with sauce and onions with lots of red cherry peppers on the side.
- Pros: great bread, unbeatable meat, sauce and onion toppings are awesome, get peppers
- Cons: you have to wait even when you call ahead.

Yes, the place looks like a hole in the wall. The seating is horrible, the parking is not much better. But who cares! When it comes to the cheesesteak itself, there is no place in Philadelphia (and therefore, the world) that has a better one. Words can not describe the taste - you just have to eat one to know that you are in cheesesteak heaven! Add the onions, forget the sauce, and just sit back and enjoy! You will probably want to order a 2nd one!
- Pros: The best cheesesteak in Philadelphia (and therefore, the world)!
- Cons: The place lloks like a dump
