Cheese Steak and a Beer.
Don't let the D'Allesandros partisans fool you. They haven't eaten there in years and are living on past memories.
Chubby's serves steaks TO ORDER, not from a 20-pound mound of steamed gray meat. Onions are chopped a little large for some tastes. Steaks are right on, though, and being able to order a cold beer makes it all the better. Decent fries too !
Good food, well priced, good service. I started going to Chubby's because dalessandro's, across the street isn't open on Sundays, doesn't take plastic and never has parking. Once I tried their food, I was hooked. The steaks are perfect and so are the hoagies and the fries. They are never skimpy and the service is fast and friendly. There's plenty of parking and they are open until the wee hours of the morning. Also, while you wait, you can have a beer and read the city paper- what more can you want?
Those onions and pepers, yeah!. My son flew into philly and heard about Chubby's from a girl firend so we searched it out. We all had their chees steaks with. Like the fact that the onions and pepers are not chopped up with the steak, That with the excellent steak they used is flavorful. Not greasy as some other joints can get. I would have liked a little more cheese in mine. We tried the cheese steaks across the street and they were not as good as Chubby's. We are from Jersey so don't get to Philly too often but any time I'm in the area looking for a great cheese steak I know where to go and I'll recommend them to anyone.
Why bother?. The cheesesteak is average. Unfortunately for Chubby's, they sit across the street from Dalessando's, which in my opinion, has the best cheesesteak in Philadelphia (and therefore, the world). Chubby's just can't compare. The only reason that I would go to Chubby's would be if Dalessando's was closed when I arrived.
Slam Dunk Cheese Steaks.
The cheesesteaks and sides at Chubby's are really good and the condiment bar in the sit down section definitely adds to it.
It's my first choice when I am running around Philadelphia.
TOP FIVE IN PHILLY.
I know I'm repeating what many others have said here so I'll make it brief.
Chubby's is a great place for an AUTHENTIC Philly Cheese Steak.
I drive a limo and I bring lots of my clients here ( as long as they don't order it with Wiz, that's a joke played on tourist )
Do it right. Provolone or American, ONLY ( unless your a politician then Swiss is ok because everybody already knows your a jacka%*&#% )
Most comments here are pretty much same as mine, except one ( chzsteak ) Where did that illiterate country bumpkin come from? Consider the source I guess.
Anyway if you want a good meal ( they have lots of beers from around the world too ) at a fair price then this is your place.
BEST CHEESESTEAKS!!!. My friend took me to chubby's when was younger the quality of their food from taste to product quality was perfection.I soon found myself returning very often..I find myself in Iraq missing Chubby's as much as i miss my family. Highly recomended. True to the philadelphia lifestyle. If you dont go you are missing out.
A Frosty Mug and a Chicken Cheese Steak. Look, I eat steaks with such frequency there is a good chance I won't live to see 40. I want to give Chubbys a big thumbs up, especially for their delectable chicken cheesesteak. The onions are particularly noteworthy. Bread and meat are tops in quality. And where else can you get the coldest beer in town served in a frosty mug while you wait for your sandwich? One of Philly's best that's worth the trip on any serious steak eating tour.
chzsteak. this was probably the worst sammich i have had in pa..........no seasoning on the meat.....crappy bread...........steak ums has a better flavor.............r all u people from pa stoned or watt....this had to be the worst cheesesteak i have ever had....
Best Cheesesteak in Philly. Skip Pat's and Geno's the steak tastes like leather, are small for the price you pay, and are no more than tourist traps. I have never understood why these 2 places are considered good. D'Allesandro's in Roxborough is also over-rated, steak is chopped too finely and there isn't much of it. I am a bit of a cheesteak officianado and have sampled steaks from through the Philadelphia area. Being born and bred in this area and living all around it I must say that as of right now the best I've had are at Chubby's in Roxborough. Chubby's comes with a fork there is so much steak and there isn't a line of people out of the door waiting. The bread is very good and steak is juicy and plentiful. My main rating factor's include roll selection, meat quality and quantity, and cheese flavor.
