Tips for Golden Nugget Jewelers

April 05, 2013

UPDATE: Here’s an update on our ordeal. So, we got a “new” setting that wasn’t supposed to have been sized (even though it had a visible solder mark) and the side stones repeatedly fell out of it. I think I lost 4 stones total. So, Gil recommended making us a custom setting that was supposed to be the same as my current setting, but with bigger prongs on the side diamonds to stop them from falling out. This new ring looks terrible! The center prongs are huge compared to how it was set before and they dwarf my 2 carat diamond. To make matter worse they set the stone at the top of the setting, so I don’t feel comfortable wearing it and I have to take it back to Golden Nugget AGAIN!!! I have been at that store no less than 10 times in the past 3 months and I’m fed up! Also, with the new center setting there is no way I can get a wedding band that isn’t curved. I’m just disgusted that these people can take more than $12,000 of your money and deliver such subpar service. If this ring was a car, according to PA Lemon Law, we’d be able to get our money back. Take your business elsewhere and save yourself some tears and frustration!!!

STAY AWAY from this business! Shady business practices and really sloppy, sub-par work.

My fiance gave me my ring and I instantly noticed that the prongs had never been filed, as they were snagging on everything, and several had tool marks still on them. The band was very thin where they had sized the ring to a size 5 and misshapen. My fiance called the same day and spoke to an owner/manager that said it wouldn't be a problem to fix and we could bring it right in.

Upon entering Golden Nugget we were greeted by a bleached blonde lady and we asked her if we could speak to the manager my fiance spoke with the day before. She said he wasn't there even though I saw him walking out from around the desk. She rolled her eyes at him and he walked out of sight and she told us we would have to speak to the sales person, Ken, who sold us the ring.

Ken initially tried to give us the run around saying that they could fix the band in the back in 2 hours. When I expressed my concerns at how thin they had filed the band already, magically he spoke to his manager (funny, thought he wasn't there) and they are ordering me a new setting. He ended by saying I should remember what a great deal we got on the stone. Actually, I did my research on EGL Israel stones and we basically got fair market price, not such a great deal.

I hope they fix the problem, as we did pay well over $10,000 for this ring.

I would have been happy to have found a great jeweler where we could purchase our wedding rings too, but this is the last business they get from us. Bottomline STAY AWAY. These people are incompetent, unprofessional, and worst of all, disrespectful.

The Best Experience I've Had Shopping Ever!. My fiance and I decided to pick our engagement ring together, and after shopping all over (20 or so stores) we found nothing. I knew exactly what I wanted but the stones were either garbage or way out of our budget...then someone sent us to the Golden Nugget. They didn't have a setting that was exactly what I wanted so our sales rep Jimmy had one made to my exact specifications, even emailing us computer generated mock ups to make sure everything was perfect. Picking the diamond was even easier. We discussed our budget and he showed us an array of stones until we found the right one. I have the ring now and it's stunning. I would recommend this place to anyone.

MISREPRESENTATION !! Beware - very very sloppy. First of all, if I could give this place a negative five stars, I would.

Im putting this review up to warn people about Golden Nugget’s sloppy, sloppy work. My husband bought my engagement ring from Golden Nugget in December 09 – 3 stone engagement ring. He was told the center diamond was .73 carats and the outside diamonds were .33 each (total of 1.39). When shopping for a wedding band, we went to Barsky Jewelers. I told the woman I wanted diamonds to match my side stones which were .33. She looked concerned and told me my side stones were not .33 each. She brought .10 carat diamonds and they were the SAME SIZE as my outside diamonds. We went home and double checked all the documents from Golden Nugget to make sure we hadn’t read it wrong. But low and behold – their paper work said exactly what we thought and that the total carat weight was 1.39. When in reality they had sold us that had .93 carats. HUGE DIFFERENCE!

Stressed out and about 2 months before our wedding, we went back to Golden Nugget to confront them. They offered me a larger diamond for the center to make up for their TERRIBLE mistake. The larger diamond they offered had a GIAGANTIC bubble inside that could be seen by the naked eye. I told them to forget it and I wanted my original diamond back. I posted a bad review on this website and the owner offered us a better center diamond if I took the review down.

We agreed and took the review down. However, a whole new engagement ring had to be ordered to fit the larger diamond. So I am not even wearing the ring my husband proposed with. And the replacement ring has a black spot on one side, and part of the prongs don’t even connect on the other side. Not to mention my ring was platinum and when we got the replacement ring, it was missing the platinum engravement. So we had to go back AGAIN and they slapped a “PLAT” on it. who knows if it is even platinum I got back. I was so stressed and upset about it that I couldn’t go back again to complain. I had had enough.

What a disaster. The is the absolute last thing someone wants to deal with 2 months before your wedding. Shopping for a wedding band should be fun, not a time to uncover dirty secrets about your engagement ring.

I’m writing this review to warn people out there to be very cautious of this place. If you don’t know what you are doing, they can and will take you for a ride. I’d definitely recommend going to Barskys instead. Their employees were much more knowledgeable and professional. I will NEVER step foot in Golden Nugget again. I don’t trust those people one bit – they are way more interested in making a fast deal, then making sure they have a satisfied customer. They lack professionalism, standards, and ethics!

As for the owner- i had posted this review a 2nd time after all was said and done and somehow it was taken down. I want him to know that i will CONTINUE to post this review because what you did to my husband and me was WRONG and we have the right to inform people of YOUR mistakes.

LOVE MY ENGAGEMENT RING. I got my engagement ring on Dec 2009. I have to say, it still is as beautiful as when I first got it. You have to let them know you're budget and size you want and they'll show you exactly what you want. I really liked that they offered my fiancee financing because I went a little bit overboard for the band!

BEWARE UNREPUTABLE!!!. My husband ordered his wedding ring from this store and they promised it would be in on time. Well, of course it wasn't. They offered a loaner ring. I returned the loaner ring and now they say they never got it!!! Now we didn't have the right ring on our wedding day, we have no ring and are out $750. What a bunch of liars and cheats.

Knowledgeable Staff and Great Customer Service. Golden Nugget Jewelers made purchasing an Engagement Ring simple and enjoyable. I went to Golden Nugget with a list of 17 Tacori rings that I researched and found on the Tacori website; going into the store I expected to be rushed or frustrate the staff with my unique request. That wasn

Beware!!. Golden Nugget sells Michele watches but is not an official authorized dealer! What this means is that neither Golden Nugget, nor Michele or their parent company Fossil can guarantee authenticity of the piece you purchase from Golden Nugget. Also, Fossil/Michele will not honor the standard 2 year warranty when pieces are purchased outside of their official authorized dealer network.

DO NOT TAKE THIS RISK!

You have nothing to gain and thousands of dollars to lose!

Sincerely,

A very concerned former customer

Best price on diamonds, period.. So I wanted a big diamond for my girlfriends engagement ring- I went really big! I looked around all of Philly, including all of the stores on Jewelers Row. All of the other places tried hard sales, pushing for down payments and "this diamond won't last". In addition to that, the diamonds were almost 35-40% higher than what I paid at Golden Nugget. I had no problem with them- got an amazing GIA certified diamond that gets more heads turning and that my now fiancee LOVES!!! I had such great service there I went back to get our wedding bands and my future wife's wedding present- diamond earrings! In Philly you won't find better- Any of their customer service reps are great, but I used Fateema who was fantastic. Go check out the other places, but come here last because this is where you will buy your diamonds.

Awful quality on repairs. My fiance & I went to have the prongs on my platinum engagement ring tightened, & Golden Nugget was one of the only places near us that had in house jewelers that could service it same day (I did not want to send it out). Well, when we walked in we were directed by a Golden Nugget employee to the jeweler's area & told to go, "STRAIGHT THERE. DON'T stop." I was confused, until we started walking to the 15 feet or so & were bombarded by 3 different people (all employees of the different jewelry companies in the building). They were all very rude & I felt as if I was in a flea market. I should have turned around & walked right back out right then, but unfortunately, I didn't.

We finally got to the jeweler & said that we simply wanted the prong tightened. He told us he had to rebuild them, but that he could easily do it in about an hour, & he'd even redip my ring in rhodium for me. Great, except my ring is platinum. He didn't believe me when I told him this, so he then took the ring from me, scraped it on some stone, & dropped a bit of a chemical on it, & then mumbled, "Oh, I guess it is. Oh well, it makes no difference, I can still do it."

Cut to an hour later. We come back & he hands me my ring. It looked like he just attacked it with pliers. The prongs were lumpy & asymmetrical, & they looked completely awful. I asked him to refine them to match the original quality of the ring (it is an antique that has filligree detail, & the the 6 prongs have a line down the center to flow with the detail below them) & he grudgingly did it. He gave it back a second time & it STILL looked terrible, as the lines in the prongs were very undefined, & they were still lumpy in places. He took it back AGAIN, & I got it back again, still not up to standard.

Moral of the story, if you have anything of high, detailed quality, don't take it to Golden Nugget. The guy was about to dip my platinum ring in rhodium, & the prongs look like a 5 year old pinched them with pliers. I've had to research other jewelers & I have to take it to a different one in Allentown in a few weeks to have it fixed, as I can hardly look at it.

I don't know if they have other jewelers there of better quality (I believe mine was Raoul) but I wouldn't try any others, anyway. I went to have my diamond secured & came back with the metal mutilated. Don't make the same mistake I did.
