In Short – Lavender walls add a soothing charm to this tiny eatery that fills up quickly every night. Go with a big group, sit at a round table and order a bunch of dishes to share. The South Cantonese menu offers a typically wide variety of options, specializing in stir fries and steamed meats, poultry and seafood. Try a lightly fried noodle basket (the "dragon and phoenix nest") of gently cooked vegetables, shrimp and chicken in oil.
Best Sweet&Sour soup I have ever had!
by Cheese1546
This place has the best chinese food around! The chicken is all white meat, the fried pork dumplings are so crispy and warm and served with the best sauce, and the sweet and sour soup is unlike any I have ever had ( and I am a HUUGE Chinese food lover)!! The service is eh, and the atmosphere is nothing special, but it feels like a chinese restaurant should feel and the food alone is worth going for. I can't remember the last time I have had good chicken from a chinese restaurant that didn't gross me out..this place is legit!
*Fried banana desert is reallllly good too! Last time I was there we ordered it, and they were out of bananas. Instead of telling us we couldn't get it, they went out and bought bananas!!!
- Pros: Sweet&Sour Soup & friend dumplings
- Cons: they dont deliver
A HORRIBLE restaurant
by ScottMoor99
Service:
I went here about a week ago and was shocked by their service! The waiter was VERY rude and seemed to be rushing for us to quickly leave. I was so embarrased since I was taking my friends from NY to this place.
Atmosphere:
Very cramped and unimpressive. Definitely not a place where you can relax and chat with friends.
Food:
I'm not sure why people like the food here. Nothing really was good the day we went. Their wonton soup was mediocre at best. Everything else was below par.
I definitely do NOT recommend this place. Don't waste your time here!
- Pros: location?
- Cons: pathetic service/ambience, BAD food
best kept secret in chinatown
by elg28
i was practically raised here, as far as chinese restaurants go. but seriously, i've been coming here for as long as i can remember. this is literally one of the best places in chinatown, and from the outside just looks like a hole in the wall (which it pretty much is). yes, it's cramped and yes, there usually is a wait (the very longest i think we've ever waited is 15 minutes). but there are some big flavors coming out of that small kitchen. they also offer some exotic dishes you can't find at other places in the city like shark and frogs legs (chinese preparation, not french). and as far as some comments i've read saying that this place is overpriced - i'm not sure what you're thinking! the food here is a bargain! the hot and sour soup, snow pea pod leaves with garlic, and salt baked squid are my favorites, but i've never had a dish here i didn't like. also, something that hasn't been mentioned in any comments i've read is that the kitchen is immaculate (i've seen it), which is extra-comforting since some restaurant kitchens are not. this is a great place to try exotic proteins and flavors!
- Pros: friendly service, always give awesome recommendations, unique dishes, good price
- Cons: parking (street parking aka nightmare), slightly cramped, more people now know about it
