In Short
Inside and out, Harmony looks like any other average Chinatown eatery: peach tablecloths, salmon napkins, faux pink carnations on each table, an illusory wall of mirrors that makes the place look twice its actual size. Best bets include the pan-fried chive dumplings dim sum--savory and ever-so lightly fried--and the imitation pork happy family, with a perfectly crisped assortment of fresh vegetables. Feeling adventurous? Order the sweet-and-sour fried whole fish.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoTempting as the baked beef buns dim sum seem, skip 'em. The encasements bear a suspicous resemblance to Mayer's potato rolls. And, the skimpy portion of "beef" inside would make poor Clara Peller turn in her grave. (Still at $1 each, you can afford to ord
Save TimeDelivery excels in preparation and speed. The wonton soup comes with wontons in a plastic baggy on the side, so the noodles don't get soggy in the broth. Same with the sauce for the lemon beef.

i've eaten at countless vegetarian/vegan restaurants across the country, and this is EASILY my favorite. the food is amazing, plentiful, and well-priced. the staff is courteous, helpful, and friendly. they offer "special dinners" - which include an entree, soup, and spring roll for only $12 - an offer which can't be beat. they have such a wide variety of appetizers, soups, and entrees that it would take years to try everything. they also have a good amount of desserts and a wide array of drinks... including absolutely delicious smoothies that are perfect for these hot summer days and the best iced tea i've ever tasted. for first timers, i strongly recommend the special dinner with either the walnut jumbo shrimp or phoenix chicken and hot & sour soup. if you aren't immediately hooked, you're a cyborg sent from the future to search for sarah connor.
Pros: amazing food, low prices, great service, helpful staff, good for dates
Cons: there should be one in every major city

New Harmony Vegetarian looks nondescript, with its spray-painted overhang that reads, "New Harmony Vege", but once you walk inside it immediately sets itself apart from the myriad mediocre restaurants that litter Chinatown's streets. Some would (and have) called it “too dark"; I call it great atmosphere. It's a dimly lit, intimate setting perfect for either a quick lunch or long dinner. For the vegetarian or vegan, this restaurant is a haven of infinite possibilities. Everything on the menu is kosher vegan, so there is no need to ask whether or not there are any animal products in any of the dishes. Everything I have tried has been excellent, brought out hot within ten minutes. The food is very well priced; a typical lunch special includes more food than could possibly be eaten in one sitting and averages five to ten dollars. The flavors are balanced subtly and beautifully. I highly recommend the Jumbo Shrimp with Walnuts (and I don't even eat the walnuts!), lychee duck with pineapple, beef bun (for $1, even if you don't enjoy the controversial potato bread-like bun, it's worth ordering), hot and sour soup and the Choco-Ban shake. If you're not adventurous, try the General Tso's chicken- an old standby prepared and presented beautifully in a cabbage leaf. Many items on the menu come with spring rolls, rice and a small dessert at the end of the meal. I can't say enough about this restaurant: in a primarily omnivorous world, most vegetarians are happy being able to find something, anything to eat. This food is so many steps above simple sustenance that it will be very much appreciated.
Pros: ambiance, value, fast service, great food
Cons: parking is sometimes difficult to find
