Disappointing fare. After going through walnut street we(5) had the urge for a late lunch and stopped by Caribu cafe. The atmosphere was promising and we decided to lunch on the bar menu ( we were told they were between lunch and dinner. Turn out we were in the culinary twilight zone. After placeing the order we waited and waited and finally waited some more. After waiting for 35 minutes we inquired on oir meal. It'll be right out we were told. Considering we were the only ones in the placewe believed. We waited another 10 minutes and finally got our meal. And what a let down. The ceaser salad had 50% croutons. The fries were clumped together - an obvious result of careless defrosting. I even found wilted lettuce in my salad. All in all it would have probably fared better at Boston market or mcdonalds. This was a major disappointment that we will not make agin.…
Disappointing All Around.
This was a very bad dining experience from start to finish.
I was in a group of 8 from out of town. Not only did Caribou mishandle our reservations--bumping us from 8:30 to 9:00--they then made us wait until nearly 10:00 to be seated.
The two young bartenders made up for this by ignoring our attempts to get a drink; they seemed to have little to do but did it very slowly and deliberately, almost as if they wanted to avoid helping us. The second we were joined by an attractive young woman, however, they rushed to get her a wine list. It was like getting helped by two high school kids with an attitude.
When we were finally seated, the food turned out to be quite regrettable. I had a piece of salmon that was sub-par, and made even worse by being drenched in onion soup; my dining-mates didn't finish their appetizers or entrees. To make things worse, the waiter declined to give us separate checks, and then left our bill to another wait person without telling her.
I'd give this place a pass--the food was as bad as the service, and both were quite poor.…
what a lovely place for brunch!. You can't go wrong with a mimosa from this place, fresh squeezed OJ and delish champagne! YUM! they make a killer bloody mary as well, heavy on the horseradish...in the BEST way. the atmosphere is lovely, it truly is reminiscent of meals had in europe. the escargot is delicious and the quiche may be the best i've ever had, perfectly fluffy. i would recommend caribou to any lover of brunch. i look forward to tasting their dinner menu someday soon!…
First time lucky?. I have been to Caribou Cafe three times. The first time, I went in the afternoon with a friend of mine and we enjoyed an exquisite bowl of escargots and a fine salad. It's was a lovely experience overall. The second time (a couple of years later), however, I went in the evening, was treated very rudely, the food was cold and not even mine -- it was the wrong order! I understand bad days, so I tried again, this time with a group of friends. I recommended the escargots. I'm quite sure we said, "bowl," yet the waiter brought a skimpy dish of six -- he knew we were sharing. He became irritated in manner when we took our time (fifteen minutes to order -- this is a group). When the entrees came out, the food was fine. It was by no means bad, but not what I would expect from a restaurant of that calibre either. Bussers kepts asking if we had finished, and we felt rushed. We weren't particularly noisy, we didn't come just before closing, so I'm completely baffled by the experience.…
GREAT PLACE ALL AROUND!. Went there on a Friday night! It was a great experience! Comfortable atmosphere, really nice manager, friendly bartender and waitress! The food was cooked to our liking perfectly and was really good! I would highly recommend this place, I will definitely be going back!…
