In Short
The Lillet posters splashed with crimson and gold, a bronze bar-top lamp, some boxy wooden booths and a U-shaped interior balcony make for cozy, casual brasserie-style dining. The bistro's classic French appetizers range from escargots in chive butter, chevre-flecked salads and a buttery or homey soup of the day. Entrees extend to pork chops, shellfish fricassee, braised salmon and scallops.

After going through walnut street we(5) had the urge for a late lunch and stopped by Caribu cafe. The atmosphere was promising and we decided to lunch on the bar menu ( we were told they were between lunch and dinner. Turn out we were in the culinary twilight zone. After placeing the order we waited and waited and finally waited some more. After waiting for 35 minutes we inquired on oir meal. It'll be right out we were told. Considering we were the only ones in the placewe believed. We waited another 10 minutes and finally got our meal. And what a let down. The ceaser salad had 50% croutons. The fries were clumped together - an obvious result of careless defrosting. I even found wilted lettuce in my salad. All in all it would have probably fared better at Boston market or mcdonalds. This was a major disappointment that we will not make agin.

For 20 years now the Caribou Cafe has been a fixture on Walnut Street. I have to say, I have always enjoyed hanging out here for a drink or a late meal after a show or after work. The food is fairly standard bistro fare - but can be very good at times.

This was a very bad dining experience from start to finish. I was in a group of 8 from out of town. Not only did Caribou mishandle our reservations--bumping us from 8:30 to 9:00--they then made us wait until nearly 10:00 to be seated. The two young bartenders made up for this by ignoring our attempts to get a drink; they seemed to have little to do but did it very slowly and deliberately, almost as if they wanted to avoid helping us. The second we were joined by an attractive young woman, however, they rushed to get her a wine list. It was like getting helped by two high school kids with an attitude. When we were finally seated, the food turned out to be quite regrettable. I had a piece of salmon that was sub-par, and made even worse by being drenched in onion soup; my dining-mates didn't finish their appetizers or entrees. To make things worse, the waiter declined to give us separate checks, and then left our bill to another wait person without telling her. I'd give this place a pass--the food was as bad as the service, and both were quite poor.
