Good Value esp. in these times. It's been a couple months since I dined here. It's DEFINITELY one of the Reading Terminal's best kept secrets. As for me, I'm nuts for their Nachos Jose Grande. Before they were served in a white rectangular container, they're served in a black circular one. When I saw that yesterday, I said damn same price less food. To my surprise, the container has just as much food if not a little bit more. I couldn't even eat 2/3 of the platter. Then again unsalted chips loaded with melted shredded cheese, beef chili, sour cream, and of course guacamole is always going to be filling add the salsa..there's your meal. Still a good value with this crummy economy, same price and same amount of food if not a little more. Keep up the good food & quality!!!
very mediocre.
Jury duty comes but once in a blue moon... I squandered my lunch money at 12th street cantina in the Reading Terminal Market. I ordered a "grilled chicken burrito platter", what I got was a bunch of stewed chicken a bit of pepper, lots of oil, and black beans and cheese. And the platter part was some tasteless rice and more beans. The Salsa tasted like ketchup.
Next time I won't be wasting my time there, might just go to china town.
Reading Terminal Market pit stop for Tex-Mex fare..
In Short
Pick up a bag of homemade blue corn chips and a side of chunky, oniony guacamole. Get burritos with refried beans and veggies, and chili con carne, or try the burrito of the day, which can include a rich red chicken mole that offers a post-swallow kick, or tender beef barbecue in a tomato tortilla. Tortas, flat flour tortillas layered with cheese, offer inventive combinations such as cinnamon-topped sweet potato and red bell pepper.
Caliente Picante. Great quick lunch spot- everything is good and fresh The buritto platter- comes with a salad and beans or rice. The beans are very thick- not very creamy- but you can mix in some of the ample sour cre@m they provide. The jalapenos are good too- a little too vinegary- but still good. If you are in the area- and in the mood for some mexican- this is the place to go.
Great Food.
I was at the Convention Center and needed something quick.
I really enjoyed my meal and I got a lot of it for the price.
Unique Lunches!!!!.
Forget the nachos and try the platter specials at lunch. They are inexpensive, filling and unlike any mexican food I have ever had in a U.S. restaurant.
Share a table with a stranger - who said Philly people are grumpy.
Certainly not Fast Food. The food here is always terrific and made to order. Despite the crowds at the Reading Terminal Market - this lunch is owrth the wait. Meat is always tender and juicy and always white meat chicken. Guacamole is the best I have had in the area. Lunch portions are very generous and usually under $10. You can even get a frequent lunch card and get your 11th meal free so forget Taco Bell and Don Pablo's because 12th street Cantina is the best.
