Truly authentic Greek food in Center City. In nice weather, be sure to check out the outdoor patio space.
A Charming Mainstay. Effie's is a wonderful little place serving up home-cooked mediterranean-style food. I usually eat-out and everything is always great. The gyros are the best in the city (not greasy but filled with perfectly seasoned meat) and the lemon soup is probably the most comforting thing you could eat after a rough day - and, the baklava is to die for. If you eat-in, ask to sit in the back - it's more roomy and romantic. If you're just with friends then sit up front.
Cute and Delicious!. my boyfriend and i were just walking by and decided to stop in for dinner because we didnt feel like cooking. We couldnt have walked into a better place! We sat in the back room, which was adorable (exposed brick walls, chandelier, double doors leading out to the courtyard), the service was excellent and the food was great! The mussels were delicious (they are spicy) and i was able to take some of the mousaka home for lunch the next day. Dont forget the baklava for dessert!
BEST PLACE I HAVE EATEN IN MY ENTIRE LIFE!!!!!. First of all, to the previous user who said that you should'nt "waste your time there", they are entirely wrong! It is the best food I've ever eaten in my entire life. The servers are nice and welcoming! The food is always hot and toasty when I get it. The prices are reasonable, too! So no one should listen to the people before us, because they are so wrong! I give it 20000 stars!
Great food, cozy place. We made reservations for 8 the day of. Great food, not the best service. Also, we were seated upstairs which isn't as nice as the back. Regardless, I would definitely go there again, and I highly recommend this place to anyone that likes casual, BYOBs, good food, and reseaonable prices.
Don't waste your time or money!. My husband and I went with another couple to Effie's on Saturday night. The service was poor, at best, and my husband and the wife of the other couple received their food at least 10 minutes before her husband and I received ours. Ours was even "on special", which you'd expect to be quickly available. My husband's food was cold when it arrived to the table, and our "special" was barely edible and not at all what we expected from the description. We left hungry and disappointed.
good.
Well the previous person that posted was 100% correct. on the other hand the one before was a bit on the bad side. Well i am effies cousin. i've been there alot... since she is my cousin and i hate when people say bad things about her.
If anyone does not beleive me, feel free to call effie or my uncle at pine street pizza. its right accross the street from effie's.
Very tasty. There is no other place like Effie's in the city. It's small and intimate; the servers are actually Greek; the food is very good; the prices are right; and the recommendations of the house are always perfect. They accomodate to every patron. There is absolutely no attitude at this place. The best place to sit is in the courtyard, or beyond the courtyard in the old-fashioned dining area in the back. It's so charming....and of course, the food is amazing. They have great potatoes!
Intimate Washington West B.Y.O.B. for basic Greek fare that always satisfies..
In Short
In a small open kitchen, whole fish and slices of pita share a grill. Service is genuine, friendly and fast. Earthy souvlaki comes on lightly grilled pita bread or stuck alongside peppers and onions on skewers. Order a side of minty rice-stuffed grape leaves or flaky and tangy spanakopita--and don't miss Effie's home-style fries. For dessert, couple cardamom-infused Greek coffee with honey-drenched baklava.
eh. the food was just alright... but maybe i'm just not a big fan of greek food. the staff was really nice even though we got there a half hour late (party of 6). i love byob so that is a plus to me. i've had MUCH better baklava in greek owned delis and homemade stuff. but also, in its defense, it was really late and it may have been a bit old.
The place to go over and over and over again. i was envited to the opening day at effie's and i am a regular customer. its always better than the last time. i recommend effies to all of my friends. it might be small, but the food is so good that i do not mind the wait. i would like effie to continue with good luck.
