What People Are Saying About Effie's

In Short – In a small open kitchen, whole fish and slices of pita share a grill. Service is genuine, friendly and fast. Earthy souvlaki comes on lightly grilled pita bread or stuck alongside peppers and onions on skewers. Order a side of minty rice-stuffed grape leaves or flaky and tangy spanakopita--and don't miss Effie's home-style fries. For dessert, couple cardamom-infused Greek coffee with honey-drenched baklava.
Editor's Tips
- Know Before You Go:
- The nearest State store is a brisk walk away at 724 South St.
- What To Drink:
- Beer lovers can pick from a thorough, if sometimes obscure, selection two blocks east at the Foodery.
- Where To Sit:
- Get there early with bottle of chilled chenin blanc for a seat on the patio. Or grab a bottle of Chianti and ask for a table in the back--right next to the wood stove.
Very Nice place! Great food!

They had great food at a reasonable price. The atmosphere was very inviting, warm, and made me feel at ease. The outside garden is very lovely, and is remarkable with the scenery. I sat in the garden watching the snow fall down and it just gave me a warm feeling inside. Not many places can do that!!! The waitresses are nice, and inviting. Not much to say on that. In the short, i shall be returning for more guests! It is worth a try for everyone!
decent food but ignored by waitress

the food is good, but not great.
the salad did serve 4, but it ought to for $16 - and there was very little dressing and flavor.
the feta was very tasty, and good olives.
our table was very cramped for 4 adults.
we ordered salad and another shared appetizer (not worth 18.50 - we each only got a small plate full) - when we were done with these plates she never came back to clear the table.
she just chatted away in the kitchen.
never came back to ask us how it was.
our dinners came - fish was ok, special eggplant was good, but it came on a bed of unseasoned white rice.
Still all of our finished plates remained on our table.
there was only 1 other group of 4 in the restaurant, so it wasnt as if she was too busy!
she was friendly, just inefficient.
this place is very small, and the decor is tacky like a bad hotel. there is even 1 whole wall that is just exposed sheet rock, half painted.
if they deliver - do that !!
- Pros: authentic greek cuisin
- Cons: tacky atmosphere/neglectful waitstaff

The best authentic greek food in town. My favorite dishes are the grilled feta with hot peppers and tomato the avgolemono soup is better than my grandmoms and the mousaka is to die for. So if you are looking for authentic greek you must go and Effie and her husband the chef will greet you.

Effie and her team are always pleasant and welcome you as if you are family. We have dined often over the past few years and love the food.

Roaches EVERYWHERE!!!
by Diningout at Citysearch
I actually had a roach land on my head and another land on my arm. When we looked around, there were roaches all over the courtyard. One was crawling up a man's leg and many were crawling into the kitchen. it was grotesque!!!
- Pros: None
- Cons: Roaches
