More Than Just Ice Cream

I have been going to More Than Just Ice Cream since the 80's. After this afternoon, I will never eat there again. I was so angry when we left that I was tempted to stop strangers in the street to tell them to never eat there either.

When we arrived, there was one customer eating in the restaurant and a family of 6 ahead of us waiting for dessert. There appeared to be 7 people working, but only one young woman (who was working ridiculously hard) actually serving anyone. Some young man in a camo jacket would occasionally come out, see the line, and then go back, or come out and say something clever and go back, and a few other people drifted through but no one helped this woman out. We waited a full 18 minutes to even have the first person in our party place there order (remember, there was only one other party in front of us, and no one in the dining room!) If my daughters had not been with us, we would have walked out.

We finally got our order and as we were sitting there, another young man came out from the back talking loudly on his cell phone, and eating ice cream directly from the case. I am assuming he used a new spoon as he moved from flavor to flavor, but he went in to the case at least 3 separate times.

There was a time that Philly was a restaurant desert, and this place served as the heart of the neighborhood. Now there are so many places to choose from. Why would you choose an overpriced place where they treat you (and some of their coworkers) like garbage?

ROACH IN MY SALAD. I have always ordered form more than just ice cream, today i ordered the House salad (one of my favorites) after eating HALF of my salad i noticed a ROACH that was wet and soggy from the balsamic vinaigrette. needless to say, i will NEVER order from there again. so BEWARE OF ROACHES when ordering from more than just ice cream.

LOVE THE CHEESS BURGERS. BEST CHEESS BURGER IN TOWN EVERY TIME IM IN PHILLY I STOP BY THE BEST!!!!!!!

Best Cupcakes in Philly!. This place is the sh*t!!

Its relaxed, it's friendly, it's everything you need!

Their Ice Cream is great and they have a wide variety of flavours, amazing milkshakes and desserts.

Everything comes in huuuuuge portions, it's really good value for money and perfect comfort food!

I'm a cupcake fanatic, I've been to so many places in Philly for cup cakes and NOTHING beats the cupcakes at this place! They are huge, moist and the frosting is creamy! (I know this sounds rude but it's true! that's what they are like!)

I can 100% recommend the Red Velvet cupcake! It would be rude not to try it!

Comfortable with yummy food, great ice cream and local color. I am a regular here, and the staff has always, since day two, remembered me and made me feel at home. The lunch and dinner menu is extensive - with comfort food that is absolutely delicious. The chicken salad is unreal! Desserts are huge and they have a great selection of Ice Cream flavors.

REAL ice cream. Great place to get real, non-froyo ice cream. Nice place to sit and eat it too! Service was slow, but I didn't mind as they were friendly.

More Than Justice Cream. I work right near MTJIC, so I go there a couple times a month. I love the food, and the waitstaff are so friendly and remember the regular customers.

I'm getting a bit tired of their menu, although their chicken quesidillas and soup specials are perfect every time. They offer 2 specials daily that aren't always the most inspiring.

Also--it's pretty dirty in there, check the air vents out.

I know this all sounds negative, but I love MTJIC and have been a loyal customer for almost 4 years...I just need a shake up on the menu.

Great for birthdays or girls' nights out. for my group of 20-somethings on a budget, this is our favorite place to take over for birthdays or just nights out with the girls. The food is tasty and inexpensive, the ice cream is wonderful, and it's a byo with plenty of wine glasses to borrow. I've never waited for a table for 4-6 at dinner time, and you can stuff yourself for about $15 including tip. Just a word of warning- walk or cab over if you can. Garages are expensive in this neighborhood and street parking is tight. Getting your meal might take a while if you have a larger group, so bring plenty of wine!

Delicious Food, Relaxed Atmosphere. Fantastic Ice Cream and delicious food. Great comfort food and it is the kind of place where everything on the menu is delicious. Don't listen to the miserable people who write bad reviews just to whine about something. This place has been flourishing for over 15 years. That should tell you something.

Home of American Democracy and Apple Pie. Honestly I enjoyed the space of the former location, but the draw for me really wasn't the space or the menu but the apple pie. The ice cream is good, but the warm apple pie is better. I have lived in NYC for the last few years and over the weekend a friend and I went in for some ice cream. We decided to split a 'slab' of pie and it was just as good as I remembered it to be. I can get many things in New York, there are countless choclatiers and bakeries -- but no substitute for the pie.

Even better than the pie is it a la mode....which is why it is an institution.
