good food, nice staff, nice management, nice place.
Overpriced - Small Portions. I stopped in Marathon Grill today returning from Macy's back to the office. I ordered a "Control Freak" salad where I chose the items to include. When the salad was finally prepared (after 15 minutes) I looked in the bag and there was no roll. I asked the unfriendly woman at the counter if rolls were included and she shot back a nasty "NO"! I took the salad and went back to work. I had ordered two different flavored dressings on the side and was given the same dressing twice. The lettuce looks semi-wilted. The Marathon Grill on Sansom is much better and the employees there are at least pleasant. For $12.50 I think I can find another restaurant that will include a roll with their salad as most places do. I won't be returning any time soon.
Marathon Grill at 1339 Chestnut is Yuck!!.
I work across the street from the Marathon Grill at 13th and Chestnut and over the years have gone there for lunch on two ocassions to eat in and about four for take out. I have to say this is some of the most terrible food I have eaten. The following has been my experience.
1) gritty salad
2) spolied salad dressing
3) incorrect order given to me
4) Salad that looks like it has been in the fridge for several days
I kept giving it a chance because it is so convenient to my office, but today with the dirty gritty wilted salad
they gave me , I will walk the extra distance to get some clean good food. The owner should be ashamed of him/herself for providing such medicocre food. It is not worth the lines and money. Yuck!
Marathon Bar (Upstairs 10th & Walnut only). Being at a friend's going away get together, I got a taste of slow service from a tall, voluptuous but slow and inattentive barmaid. Out of grapefruit juice. Out of Guinness on tap. First time there but I believe in first impressions.
Not all the Marathons are bad..... Living and working in Center City there are at least 4 Marathons located within walking distance. I will preface by stating that I LOVE the Marathon on the Square! The employees are friendly, professional and you never need to ask for a refill, seriously, some of the best food service employees. The food is great and the take out too. However, I cannot recommend the sister Marathons 13th and Chestnut nor 10th and Walnut. Terrible take out from ordering, to picking it up, to opening it up (look at your order before you leave the restaurant if your odering take out, chances are the order will be incorrect or the lack of food in the box.... truly a rip off!) The $11.18 nicoise salad with barely any tuna is the reason for my review. Note...I never ever, ever gave a review before this date on any restaurant. So if your visiting and must go to a Marathon Grill restaurant try Marathon on the Square at 19th and Spruce.
Slow service, horrible food. Had dinner at the Marathon Grill Saturday night. Not only were they out of 3 different things on the menu, what we ordered was horrible. Calamari as an appetizer...no flavor, completely tasteless. My husband ordered the swordfish which was covered in oil. Swimming in it. I has the Truffled mac &cheese. This was also tasteless. Our waiter was very slow, never checked on us, it took 35min to get the bill! We will never go back and try to tell anyone to stay away!
horrible food and noisy.
The salmon i ordered is burnt and hard to chew. Too expensive for the quality of food. I paid around 20 bucks for getting a entree and a drink.
The only good thing i remember is oreo cookie smoothie. That was great! Besides that, the food was horrible.I will not go there again.
awesome food! great menu!. very good- went on a recommendation and thoroughly enjoyed. great menu.. we went for lunch- a good lunch place.. not sure how it would be for dinner..
Our favorite place for breakfast while staying in the area.. My wife and I love this place. I would eat here every morning for breakfast. Great menu items, large portions, average prices, decent service, good quality of food coming out. Very tasty!
What happened tonight?.
I had frequent this restaurant for many months - but tonight was horrible.
Its a Saturday night - and 2 large parties were ahead of us and seated.
I just had a party of 3 - we sat and ordered our food at about 6:45PM (we had theater tickets at 8pm).
We waited and waited - the 2 large parties were served (which I was okay with this).
By 7:25PM - we're still waiting.
But then, we noticed there were two other tables of people who I knew came in after us were suddenly served their dinner. The most surprising was the one table of 3 men who ordered 5 entrees (I counted).
I signaled to the waiter to inquire what was going on. I informed him we had theater tickets.
He told us our dinner will be served in a few minutes.
How long does it take to prepare two sandwiches and a plate of chicken fingers - and yet the other patrons were served large salads and big entrees.
By 7:30PM - the chicken fingers were served (a plate of 6 deep fried batter chicken and dipping sauce), but my other friend's entree was the wrong order. How hard is it to screwup a hamburger with cheddar?
My dinner wasn't even ready yet.
By 7:40PM - I was finally served. I cut my chicken sandwich in half and passed it to my friend who was still waiting. We both engulfed it - we had to rush.
Its now 7:45PM - we gave up. I abruptly approached our waiter to cancel that hamburger - we had to leave and I needed the bill.
7:50PM - no bill. I signaled the waiter again and he immediately rung up the bill for us.
We rushed outta there to make our show on time - still hungry.
Sorry to say i will never go back there again.
