Editorial Review for Barsky Diamond Importers & Cutters – by Abigail Marceluk

In Short
This small, family-run business designs and creates all its own jewelry, with unique and beautiful results. Along with the standard precious and semiprecious stones--diamonds, rubies, emeralds, amethysts and the like--are more unusual offerings, like multicolor tourmaline, orange Mexican opal and rare violet-blue tanzanite. The attentive, knowledgeable staff will work with customers to create custom designs, which, with the store's own lapidary service, can even include cutting or recutting a gemstone.

I've gone though two engagment rings from Barksy's. in just 4 months. Both left the store with loose diamonds, uneven prongs, and poor quality. I have had to make several trips to the store to return defected merchandise, only to have them deny anything was wrong with the ring (it was completely missing a prong after only wearing it for 1 week!) even after another jeweler in my hometown said it was cleary defected. In fact, the salesman at Barsky's said they would put it back out in the case to resell it! They completely scammed us, and I can only imagine how many other people they have scammed over the years. Men, if you want to buy your ladies engagement rings that really do last forever, then don't go to Barsky's. It won't last past three weeks.

Pros: convenient hours

Cons: the whole experience

I bought my wife's engagment ring at Barsky after searching Jeweler's Row for weeks. I had been looking in the window when Mr. Barsky happened to arrive to the store and stopped to say hello. After asking me a few questions, he invited me in to have a look at a few things. I figured he was going to try to make a sale, and wasn't too anxious to follow him, but I was surprised at how much time he gave me, and how committed he was to finding the exact ring I wanted. He was so helpful and professional, and he worked with me on price so much that I was thrilled with the ring. Money was never an issue. I told him my price range (which wasn't very high) and he worked with me to make sure I got exactly what I wanted for my money. And my wife loved it. She still loves it. When we needed to get wedding bands, Barsky was our first stop. Now let me say, I didn't spend $20,000 on the engagement ring, so I didn't think he'd remember me. He did. He again treated me with gentle respect and went out of his way to make sure I got what we wanted. I had a destination wedding quickly approaching, and there wasn't enough time to have exactly what I wanted made. He didn't try to talk me into to something he had at the store. Instead, he gave me a loaner. He actually gave me a diamond-studded wedding band, that he altered with filagree to match the ring I ordered, on loan until the ring I wanted could be made. I have never experienced this kind of customer service. The craftsmanship of all of the rings are amazing, and everyone makes mention of their uniqueness and antique look. I can't say enough about how well I was treated by, and how far my money went in working with Mr. Barsky and his friendly, professional staff. Getting engaged and married were serious decisions for me and the pressures they being were eased greatly by the treatment and respect I received. Thank you for taking the time to read this.

Pros: Customer service, prices, respectful environment

Cons: Parking in the area hard to find
