Best gimlets in town.. Always have a great time at Sass. I love the fireplace in the winter & you have to check out the upstairs bathroom.

Burgers and martinis are the way to go in this old-style, Old City haunt.. In Short
Sassafras provides an unpretentious respite from the legions of Old City. A tin ceiling, tile floors and dressed-up staff make the bar here a perfect place to sit and nurse a martini. Dishes run the intercontinental gamut, from cheese tortellini to hummus and back to omelettes, with a few standouts such as the oddball verenlike (Mongolian version of Russian dumplings). Stick with burgers--beef, lamb, or ostrich--with a selection of cheesesand sauces.

Best classic bar in town. This is _the_ place to get excellent old-fashioned drinks, carefully prepared, and great classic burgers and fries. None of the "international" food ever looked v enticing to me, but if I were a vegetarian, I'd just go with a huge side order of fries. The place is completely unpretentious, with wonderful old tiles and an open fireplace that actually has a fire in the winter. Usually, it draws a very agreeable mixed crowd. The music is always good and unobtrusive. While there, don't forget to take a look at the upstairs bathroom.

Ah...Sass. This is absolutely the best of the bunch. With a zillion bars to choose from I keep going back to Sass. No scene, great vibe and great look . Really comfortable. Can't say a bad thing about the place. Good drinks, good beers, and good food.

Dying Breed. Sass is a bar of a dying breed. Someone can come in order a martini, and actually have someone make it, and make it well without being bothered by hefty prices, loud bass beats thumping, and get it quickly. Did I mention they make better martinis than some of the so-called martini bars! Sass is the original and sadly enough one of the only chill hangs in a now overly priced shamefully glitzed-up Old City. I highly recommend it to the unpertentious drinker who hangs out to drink and socialize not just to be seen.

Burgerama...and so much more!. Woodydunck isn't kidding when he calls Sassafras burgers "bangin'!" They are simply the best in Philadelphia, hands down! Every possible combination of chesses and sauces is available. I recommend you mix and match...experiment. But there are much more than burgers on offer in this Old City institution (30yrs on the block and still going strong.).Check out the homemade Mongolian Dumplings or gooey French Onion soup. ...or, just stop in for a relaxing drink with the knowledgable and friendly barstaff. These guys pour a killer martini...old school style! Basically, Sassafras is an all round winner!

hana eats. This is one of the best burgers a person will ever have. But obviously it's not the only thing on the menu, they offer a whole bunch of meaty as well as vegetarian treats that will satisfy.

bangin' burgers. These burgers are great! You have a choice of like 5 different meats, 8 cheeses, and like 3 sauces. It's a chore to finish them. I love 'em
