Editorial Review for Gianfranco Pizza Rustica – by Lauren McCutcheon
The Scene
This tiny, un-air conditioned, mostly peach-colored space just off Market Street consists of four tiny tables, eight chairs and a glass counter with a couple of shelves to display slices. Most customers wait for take-out in a line from the door to the self-serve soda fountain (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Minute Maid Orange, Dr. Pepper and Hi-C--and sometimes ice).
The Food
Despite cramped quarters, Gianfranco keeps all of Old City coming back by making the best 'za in the whole darn neighborhood. A light crust, fresh and chunky sauce and delish toppings that range from classic to downright gourmet: tomato and pesto, artichokes and black olives, broccoli rabe (in season) and spinach, white potato and prosciutto. Garlic lovers go for calzone and stromboli. Hot and cold traditional Italian-American saucy sandwiches come on homemade rolls.

This is a review of the store on 11th st - I need to warn you that I believe the food preparers cannot read English even though my order was hand printed in large letters"NO ANCHOVIES"- My issue is that although my order listed NO anchovies with the greek salad, they disregarded it and I discovered it when I returned to the office 3 blocks later- I am strongly allergic to fish so i needed to return and have them prepare a new salad - it wasn't worth the trip
Pros: none
Cons: sloppy service - below average food - not worth it

I moved to DC area and everytime I come back to Philly, Gianfranco is my first stop for my chicken ranch pizza. The people are super friendly and there are a variety of pies to choose from. Above all, the pies are SOOOO~~~ GOOD~~~ My favorite is the Chicken Ranch pizza. They have great cheese steaks as well. They toast it in the oven and it is 100 times better than Quiznos. I definitely recommend this place. BEST PIZZA IN PHILLY!!!!!
Pros: VERY TASTY AND NICE PEOPLE
Cons: PARKING
