In a neighborhood with plenty of pizza shops but few very good ones, this is my personal go-to. Reliably fresh and well made, the pies here are some of the best in Old City.
The Best Pizza by far....... Everyone has their own personal preferences weather it is thick doughy bread or thin crisp crust, sliced buffalo mozzaerella or shredded mozzarella, sauce on top or sauce on the bottom. We have tried 10 pizza shops in Philly so far and over 30 in Delaware County and this has been by far our favorite. We tried tomato and riccota, pepperoni and just sauce and these slices were huge.
parking. the pizza is ok but there is never any -parking i always get a ticket when i go there so the pizza costs about 11 dollars plus the 25 ticket 35 for a pizza is high for me
This slice of heaven comes to those who wait..
The Scene
This tiny, un-air conditioned, mostly peach-colored space just off Market Street consists of four tiny tables, eight chairs and a glass counter with a couple of shelves to display slices. Most customers wait for take-out in a line from the door to the self-serve soda fountain (Coke, Diet Coke, Sprite, Minute Maid Orange, Dr. Pepper and Hi-C--and sometimes ice).
The Food
Despite cramped quarters, Gianfranco keeps all of Old City coming back by making the best 'za in the whole darn neighborhood. A light crust, fresh and chunky sauce and delish toppings that range from classic to downright gourmet: tomato and pesto, artichokes and black olives, broccoli rabe (in season) and spinach, white potato and prosciutto. Garlic lovers go for calzone and stromboli. Hot and cold traditional Italian-American saucy sandwiches come on homemade rolls.
best pizza in philly. gianfranco's has the best pizza. i havent tried the rest of the menu, because i think their pizza is awesome.
Very Slow, but usually worth the wait. My office orders from Gianfranco's pretty frequently. The delivery service is gut-achingly slow, but the pizza is generally delicious with the thin crispy/chewy crust, delightful toppings etc. The only thing is that due to the slow service, you frequently end up with lukewarm pies, but its nothing that a few minutes in the toaster oven/few seconds in the microwave can't fix. Also, they got new ovens last summer, and they seem to be working out some kinks with that which results in sometimes burnt or undercooked pizza.
Pretty good pizza!. The pizza was some of the best I've had from a mom & pop pizza joint. I'll be going back again when I'm in town.
A rare find in Philly..... ....is a good pizza shop. Very few places in Philadelphia do pizza right. Certainly, it's not like the NY pizza I grew up with (which some believe is the best city for pizza in the world), but this place comes very close. I go out of my way for a hot slice of Gianfranco's. And, yes...they deliver!!
great place. I don't even live close by and still I always drive to this place to get some great pizza. I love their eggplant pizza, it is amazing and sooo smoky.(yum)I could eat it every day,if it wasn't for the white crust(simple carb). Much better than soho.
amazing pizza. this pizza is amazing!!! Crispy yet chewy crust, fresh tasting sauce, and delicious, stringy mozzarella. One of the best I've had in Philly!
Great pizza on the go.
The portobella mushroom is excellent.
It's a great place to go when you want a quick bite.
