In Short – Before the Old City boom, the upstairs (known as Upstairs at Nick's) of this old-style pub was a mainstay of the Philadelphia indie/punk scene. Both fans and bands would adjourn downstairs to sample some of the sturdy selection of beers, and its world-famous roast beef sandwiches. The downstairs stands proudly as a still-vibrant reminder of the way Old City used to be.
NASTY!!!!!!!!!

Unless you want to get really sick, don't eat here.
I ordered a chicken cutlet sandwich, at about 12:30 PM on 01-29-2008.
I returned to work and ate half the sandwich when I noticed that the chicken was completely raw.
I returned to the establishment with the un cooked portion. I asked to speak to a manager. The manager glanced over and to the waitress that I needed to wait.
After several minutes the manager arrived to my area. I showed him the uncooked portion and asked for a refund. He attempted to remove the portion from me and said no.
He stated that I needed to decide. " If I give him the portion I will get my money back". "If I did not give it to him then I can not get my money back."
He then stated that I "needed to do whatever it is that I want to do."
The man was a large, older man with balding white hair and glasses. I did not get his name. But he was the manager on 01-28-2008.
Pros: its in Olde City
Cons: the food is RAW
Fake Nick's...don't be dooped!
by jneen
If you want a REAL Nick's Roast Beef sandwich, the kind that will make your knees buckle, make the trip out to Springfield for the Real Deal... The slop they serve at the Olde City location (which is not even affiliated with the Original) nothing short of a sin & a shame! - and that's only if you're lucky enough to be served food that was cooked thoroughly. Ew!
- Pros: The iced tea is good.
- Cons: Might get raw chicken on your chicken sandwich
Nick's for Quizzo
by aetchells
Every Wednesday I'm a regular at Nick's Roast Beef. I used to go just for the great roast beef sandwiches and big beers but now I'm hooked on quizzo. If you don't know, quizzo is a trivia game where you can win great prizes like your bar tab.
- Pros: roast beef, johnny goodtimes, cheap
- Cons: smokey
The Details on Nick's Roast Beef Of Old City
Where to Sit:
While there are tables with waitress service in the back, most of the action occurs up front, where a hearty, largely male clientele with a big thirst anxiously bellies up to the bar for food and fuel.
What to Eat:
The bar still serves up a mean roast beef, served with a side of horseradish that will clear out the most clogged of nasal passages. Tasty versions of bar food perennials including chicken wings and fingers, mozzarella sticks and fries are available until 1 am.
