NASTY!!!!!!!!!.
Unless you want to get really sick, don't eat here.
I ordered a chicken cutlet sandwich, at about 12:30 PM on 01-29-2008.
I returned to work and ate half the sandwich when I noticed that the chicken was completely raw.
I returned to the establishment with the un cooked portion. I asked to speak to a manager. The manager glanced over and to the waitress that I needed to wait.
After several minutes the manager arrived to my area. I showed him the uncooked portion and asked for a refund. He attempted to remove the portion from me and said no.
He stated that I needed to decide. " If I give him the portion I will get my money back". "If I did not give it to him then I can not get my money back."
He then stated that I "needed to do whatever it is that I want to do."
The man was a large, older man with balding white hair and glasses. I did not get his name. But he was the manager on 01-28-2008.
Pros: its in Olde City
Cons: the food is RAW
Fake Nick's...don't be dooped!. If you want a REAL Nick's Roast Beef sandwich, the kind that will make your knees buckle, make the trip out to Springfield for the Real Deal... The slop they serve at the Olde City location (which is not even affiliated with the Original) nothing short of a sin & a shame! - and that's only if you're lucky enough to be served food that was cooked thoroughly. Ew!
The rock may be long gone, but the roast beef with horseradish lives on..
In Short
Before the Old City boom, the upstairs (known as Upstairs at Nick's) of this old-style pub was a mainstay of the Philadelphia indie/punk scene. Both fans and bands would adjourn downstairs to sample some of the sturdy selection of beers, and its world-famous roast beef sandwiches. The downstairs stands proudly as a still-vibrant reminder of the way Old City used to be.
Nick's for Quizzo. Every Wednesday I'm a regular at Nick's Roast Beef. I used to go just for the great roast beef sandwiches and big beers but now I'm hooked on quizzo. If you don't know, quizzo is a trivia game where you can win great prizes like your bar tab.
A must try!.
My first time to Philly, I was walking around and found this place. Bill Clinton was eating next door at Cuba Libre so there were Secret Service people everywhere. So I went into Nick's (which I heard of on Vindigo) and had a Roast Beef sandwich with peppers on the side. WOW! Absolute best RB sandwich ever! (getting hungry writing about it)
Local snobs will say Californians don't know what a Cheesesteak is supposed to be, blah blah. SO WHAT? WE KNOW GOOD FOOD and Nick's is great. I walked from downtown to Geno's (a looong walk) though we are not talking about the same sandwich I enjoyed Nick's far more than Geno's hands down. You must go here, the owner and his son are great guys, I sat at the bar and told them I was from SF, CA and would post a review for them.
The Best!!!. There is no where in Philly that you can get a better roastbeef sandwich than Nick's Roast Beef. Make sure you get the combo and try the birch beer.
