Continental Restaurant

The original Stephen Starr restaurant. Check out weekday happy hour from 5-7pm, with $3 beers, $5 cocktails and $1-$2 small bites.

One of the Starr originals, this spot's wasabi shoestring fries has helped soak up many a cocktail through the years.

Theme-Decor, but charming staff and great food!. Originally, I wanted to stop by another place for a late lunch (3pm), but they didn't serve food at that time. We were directed to Continental and I was suspicious at first of the themed decor (martini's and airplanes?) but the place was packed and appears to always be packed. Luckily it is a cavernous restaurant with lots of different rooms, each with a slightly different feel to them. One is smaller and more intimate - one large group could take it up, the front room is louder and great to see and be seen, where the back room seems better for smaller groups that want to hear each other. Our waiter was a cute aspiring actor - he charmed everyone at the table w/o being obtrusive. There was a table of 6 hip ladies celebrating a 40th bday party - they couldn't get enough of our hansome waiter. The food was great. The burgers were super, but, surprisingly, so was the seared tuna. I wouldnt usually get seared tuna at a place that bills itself as a hip diner, but it was a good call. All in all - great time.

Nice food, service and atmosphere. First impression of the place, friendly staff, cool decor, relaxing atmosphere, fairly innovative food but can be slightly crowded if it's full. We followed the recommendations of the waitstaff and were really satisfied with the taste. It was a better experience than Buddakan or Morimotos. Will definitely be back.

nothing special. Here is the truth about this restaurant: this food is rather bland and definitely overpriced. People go here because of its look, which apparently is cool or hip, but it's not authentically so. This is yet another example of a restaurant trying to be fine dining but failing miserably. There is a difference between a diamond and a fake diamond, and this place is an example of a fake. Unfortunately most people are content to surround themselves with plastic and pretend it's a precious gem. What is our society coming to? Please do not eat here.

little pricey, but consistently delicious. I come here often... it's always consistent. Drinks are always strong, food is always delicious. I have never had anything but great service, although I see others who reviewed have. Yes, there are people who think they are super cool, but I find it entertaining to watch people like that so it doesn't bother me. I like this location much better than the Continental Midtown because it is much less touristy.

Love the Continental. Year after year, the Contintental maintains its greatness. Brunch is awesome here, and the pumpkin waffles are out of this world. My friend and I had her two small kids with us, and the staff was friendly and accomodating (and the kids loved the shoestring fries - they're heaped on the plate like a little mountain). If you go in the evening, try the Lobster mashed potatoes; you won't be sorry. Finally, late night, the martini menu is extensive, and ALL of them are delicious.

Best In City. If youve never been to The Continental before you have to go. If youve been there in the past you have to go again. THe continental seems to always keep up with the times the outdoor seating is the best in Philly. The place is where to be seen in the city where to get food and great drinks. Everyone there is good looking and it is very relaxed and fun. My favorite spot.

Best Philly Hot Spot. The Continental Old City is truly what Philadelphia is all about. On a given night you can hang out with your friends over thier amazing cocktail list see celebrities and the prettiest women in the city and get a reasonably priced fine dining style meal. Ive been to the Continental several times and it has never disappointed the atmosphere food and service have no rival. If you go you have to try thier crab pad thai or their lobster mash potatoes. They have an amazing classic cocktail list and its reasonably priced. I would recommend this to anyone its an experience.

Fusion cuisine and Rat Pack-style cocktails in a swanked-up diner.. In Short
A set of dice bedecks the roof, while giant cocktail olives doubling as lamps hang above window booths. Count on a line out the door and rushed service on Friday and Saturday nights. New American-Asian fare brings bar-side dining to a higher level. The sirloin burger with Jack and cheddar on a plump egg roll never disappoints. Entree standouts include tender and sweet teriyaki filet mignon; light, crispy panko-crusted scallops; and peanut-savory Thai chicken skewers.

Good Food, Poor Atmosphere. Visited The Continental on a Saturday evening . Upon arriving, it was very busy, very noisey. The entire meal conversation was done by screaming as the noise was nerve-wracking. The music was loud, so patrons had to speak even louder. The table was very small and there was about 6-10 inches of space between us and the table on either side of us. We were presented with with the Crispy Calamari Salad, which was very good, then the Rice dish that was ordered came. When the Fried Squid was brought to the table, it was handed to me on a plate that was too, too hot. The kitchen server left me holding the plate trying to find space on the table. Finally, after about 1 minute, our server arrived and made room on the table. The price was very reasonable. The atmosphere of the restaurant left much to be desired.
