Tips for Mexican Post Restaurant & Bar

Went to Mexican Post in WIlmington our waitress was sweet helpful and attentive, but the food and drinks were awful...I dont think there was any tequila in the Margaritas, and the food was low quality small portions over priced and you had to pay Extra for sour cream and guacamole with your entree.....JUNK will not be back again.

Have a drink and leave. I can't imagine why anyone who has eaten here would ever come for round two. There are so many amazing Mexican restaurants in the Phila area, there is no reason to settle for Mexican Post. The Tortilla soup looked and tasted like someone put tortillas and water in a blender and poured it in a dish. The black bean soup was thick and flavorless. The "snapper" tasted like it was previously frozen and was topped with what tasted like jarred salsa. The Veggie salad tasted pretty good going down, but both my partner and I suffered from stomach aches the rest of the night. If you want GOOD Mexican food, try Las Cazuelas at 4th and Girard or one of the many authentic taquerias near the Italian market. Tamarindos in Blue Bell has FREE awesome margaritas, savory soups, creative entrees, and a whole fresh grilled snapper encrusted in garlic that puts Mexican Post's snapper to shame.

In short, save your money....or go to Taco Bell; there's not really that much difference.

Extra Charge on Credit Card. Met some friends at Mexican Post. The margaritas were excellent and the nachos were good (although very small) afterwards saw an extra 20$ charged to my credit card. I still had the receipt, and the first charge added up perfectly including tip which I had documented on both receipts, however there was an additional $20 even charge. Very obvious rip off. Called amex and they took it off. Thankyou amex. I don't take offense to bad service or even if a dish is done improper - every restaurant has bad days - but to try BLATENTLY rip me off? Thats where I draw the line. Won't be back there. Sorry.

Great happy hour!. My friend invited me to the happy hour at Mexican Post and I'm so glad I came! The snacks are small-sized meals that are $1.25 so even if you had to get several of them, you'd still be paying less than $5! Margaritas by the glass or pitcher in varieties of flavors (we got the mango). The bartender was friendly and service was quick and efficient. Happy hour is 4:30-6:30 Monday through Friday so if you get a chance to go, don't miss out!

Overpriced. I thought this place was very expensive for the quality. The atmosphere was nice but the actual food was lacking. The rice was lacking in flavor. I have had much better authentic Mexican food for about half the price.

Overall: It is OK, but don't expect anything fantastic.

Entree was good, but service was unfriendly. I had dinner at the Mexican Post this week, and while I was satisfied with my entree, the dessert was not very good, and our waitress was less than friendly. I had the fajitas and they were good, but they didn't bring enough of the tortillas and the waitress said she would have to charge us for any additonal ones. The fried ice cream was not very good and we didn't even eat it. The selection of wines was terrible, and I ended up just having a soda since they didn't serve any decent chardonnay by the glass. After a long day of work, I would have liked to have relaxed with a nice glass of wine. I would suggest that the management try pouring at least one decent brand of California Chardonnay to please customers like us.

Bad food, stale ingredients. My boyfriend and I recently had dinner here on a Tuesday night. The service was quick, but maybe that was because it was pretty empty. We were extremely disappointed by the food. I ordered a mojito that was probably the worst I've ever had-- fairly strong, but no flavor. The chips they gave us were stale, and the salsa was clearly out of a jar. I ordered an enchilada and a tostada that were mediocre at best. They tasted like they had been prepared at home and microwaved, and my tostada had a strange, musty taste/smell to it. My boyfriend ordered the seafood enchiladas which were stuffed with imitation crab meat and tiny baby salad shrimps (confirmed by the waiter). Basically a very disappointing dinner, and we were both nauseous afterward. I know it was cheap, but I think we should be able to expect food that's at least fresh and tastes better than if we'd prepared it at home.

Bring the kids-get NO service!!. We took the kids to Old City for the day and they were excited that we chose to go to the Mexican Post for lunch! We (mom and dad) were also looking forward to the Margarita;s! Well we couldn't even score a basket of chips. The waiter avoided our table like the plague, visiting tables that weren't even occupied to wipe them, making sure the people that came in after us had everything they needed, clearing dishes from other tables. In 15 minutes, this waiter managed to do everything except take even so much as a drink order from me and my family. We asked for the manager after we got up to leave, and were told there wasn't one there-not good business at all!!! Bottom line-if you want bad service go there -if not take my advice and go somewhere else!!

Yay, margarita pitchers!. The individual margaritas are a bit small, so if you think you'll want more than one, go for the pitcher to save a little cash. They are, however, delicious, as are the plentiful chips and salsa and the variety of authentic entrees. Service is fast and friendly, and the atmosphere, while bustling, is still comfortable. It's a nice change of pace from the mostly clubby spots on Chestnut and 2nd Sts.

Worst server ever. The food was quick, but bland. I got over that because the sangria was good. But then the check was dropped. No problem. 2 minutes later he asked us to get it to him when we were ready. Normal. 2 minutes after that we got "Ladies, if you wouldn't mind...I'd really like to leave." It was just plain rude. And after doing nothing but taking an order and dropping food. I would've liked to have not left a tip but I'm not that mean. I just won't go back...but here's your warning about the older waiter--he's not very nice! Avoid his section.
