What People Are Saying About Tandoor India Restaurant

In Short – Buffet carts offer cold and hot classics. Keep it moving as best you can by proceeding from left to right (salad to meat), then return back to the salad station to dress your curried entree with cooling raita or mild chile and mint sauce. Though the slightly spicy saag paneer (stewed greens and farmer's cheese) is a bit light on the cheese cubes, both the curried vegetables and the rogan josh (lamb cubes in a spicy sauce) are hearty and pungent. For dessert, sample the gulab jamur, warm, egg-shaped dough balls floating in syrup.
Editor's Tips
- Look Good:
- Don't be greedy. Heed the signs that warn against taking more than you can eat.
- Save Money:
- Lunch is $5.95 all you can eat. Get there early, because around noon, cash-strapped students quickly fill the place.
- Know Before You Go:
- Tandoor refers to a brick and clay oven used to bake naan, white-flour flat bread used for scooping up sauces.
Eh eh, there's nothing else i can say

Food was greasy. Though if you can handle a little grease in your meal, then best of luck to you. For ten dollars, I guess you really cannot expect that much out of a little buffet.
There was sufficient vegetarian dishes, but even then those were also were packed with grease. Whatever happened to nice steamed vegetables with a little sprinkling of oil being served in restaurants?
All in all, Tandoor is unexceptional, but adequate.
- Pros: Cheap
- Cons: Greasy, processed
poor example of Indian food

The food was greasy and not-that-good...overly salted and generally disappointing. The dinner buffet at around 930 PM was pretty dismal and hardly anything was left. Not many vegetarian options either. Have had much better meals from the buffet around the corner at New Delhi, who replenish their buffet even late, have many veggie options, and things aren't soggy and overly-salted. Also had old-looking salad at their buffet. Atmosphere is dingy and nothing special. Lame. I won't go again.
- Pros: none
- Cons: servers dont seem to speak english, stare at you, food is greasy and overly salty and old

I went to this restaurant and turned back quite satisfied with a promise to owner to visit them again in a week. The dishes were very tasty.especially vegetarian as my husbadn dint like the chicken curry much.
chats there were awesome with chatnis. I just loved the imli (tamrind) and pudhina(mint) chatni. Made an excellent chollechat with dahi(yoghurt) ,pappdhi and mashed aalu and chatnies.
Luckily it was saturday and they were serving bathura chole and samossas also.Enjoyed it.
Its comparatively cheap also with a decent ambience.I found i homely with little less preofessioanl services though.
- Pros: Excellent vegetarian food and chats and chatnies
- Cons: naans were not that fresh

After going here with a class for dinner, I can honestly say that although our professor paid for the meal (which was very nice of him, btw ;) ), the meal in itself was vile. I chose from a meager selection of very bland options (that were all lukewarm or cold). Avoid! (Go to New Delhi, which is just around the corner :) )
- Pros: none
- Cons: got sick from the food, which was cold and flavorless

i was pleasantly surprised when i went to tandoor. my friends and i found it by accident when we were trying to go to fatou and fama (whoops, forgot it's closed on monday!). this place is DEFINITELY better than new delhi, which is the indian buffet around the corner on chestnut. the food here is actually seasoned, unlike the extremely bland food i have been finding at so many other indian restaurants. plus, when i went, they had barfi for dessert, which is not a common find at most buffets. usually, you only get kheer (rice pudding) and oversweetened gulab jamun (when it's done right, you're not supposed to feel like you're going to go into a diabetic coma!).
i won't say it's the most amazing indian food i've ever had, but for the price, it's probably the best buffet i've been to in philadelphia. that said, i'm sure karma down in old city has a good buffet, but i've only been there for dinner off the menu (and it's not cheap!)
