Editorial Review for Mama Palma's Gourmet Pizza – by Citysearch Editors
In Short
A friendly spot, Mama Palma's keeps a wood-fired brick oven by the door and couples in windows overlooking Spruce Street. Clients include college kids and neighborhood families, who come for casually efficient service and food fit for sharing. Pizzas come topped with roasted eggplant, fresh ricotta, capers, sun-dried tomatoes, clams, plus less traditional toppings such as Peking duck, brie, chicken dijon, turning potentially combative combinations into sensible pairings. You can't miss with traditional pies like roasted sausage or Margherita, and gourmet-style foodies will appreciate the challenging concoctions.

Insider Tips
Know Before You GoSmall pies are enough for one hungry eater; mediums are for two or three; and a large should satisfy a group of four.
The ExtrasMama Palma's pulls out the high chairs, lollipops and sip cups for the little ones--even on busy Friday nights.
What to DrinkBring your own bottle of wine, but Mama's supplies a small but nice selection of draft and bottled beers.

I concur with all the negative reviews about the owner. I've seen the type of behavior they describe (yelling at a customer for asking for a particular table and then at the server for even considering their seating request). It's also very interesting that after negative reviews, very often someone with little or no review history will quickly post a 100% rave about the food, service, and the owner, even claiming to have been there numerous times and never seeing any of the bad behavior reported by others. A shill, maybe? Given the number of negative reviews, and their consistency, it seems very unlikely - very - that a frequent customer would not have seen evidence at least once of the owner's or waitstaff's bad behavior. Go if you want (few say the pizza is not good), but you'd be well served to consider the significant risk of customer abuse.
Pros: Pizza
Cons: Owner/staff abuse that makes the pizza not worth it
