What gives?. I'm writing to bring awareness to an issue that I had at this location. I needed to get either a cake and/or cupcakes for a birthday dinner for a friend of mine. It was after 7pm, so I knew it would not be the easiest to do, but never did I imagine it being so hard either! I called Scoop DeVille at 7:33pm. and the employee that answered confirmed that they had cakes AND they would be open until 8pm. I get to the door at at 7:50pm and the door is locked! I can see an employee in the back working and I knocked on the door. He basically gave me dismissive hand gesture and walked into a room further back in the establishment. I think i was a bit desperate to get a cake for this friend's birthday and I decided to call. The employee comes back into sight and answers the phone. I explained that I called him not too long ago and he confirmed that the store would be open until 8pm, and all I needed as a cake. He responds, "fine, I will let you in" and proceeds to slam the phone down in my ear and then slammed a towel on one of the counters in frustration. I'm looking at him in absolute shock at the fact that he would respond this way when I'm clearly in a jam AND I'm SPENDING my money! But don't forget the fact that I got to the door 10 minutes before closing! He truly made me feel like I was asking for a hand-out or something by simply opening the door and allowing me to SPEND my money. I knocked on the door again and gestured to him to don't even bother doing me any favors and I walked away. For me, this was truly a "what gives" situation because I was there before the closing time, there to spend money, so I don't know exactly what the problem was with this particular employee? For the record, I am a Black man, however, I wasn't dressed in "hip-hop" attire nor do I look particularly intimidating. Again, for me, this was a "what gives situation." The great thing is that there's an establishment at Walnut and Juniper by the name of Naked Chocolate that stays open late and that was a much better experience. The atmosphere and employees were so warm and inviting, and my friends loved their cupcakes, especially the friend whose birthday we were celebrating! Scoop DeVille has to do better if they want to survive on Chestnut Street, especially in a city as diverse as Philadelphia!

Amazing Ice Cream Parlor. It was my first time in PA and some of my friends and i had walked by Scoop de Ville a couple times and never gone in. Finally we went in and got some ice cream. it was literally the best ice cream I've ever had in my life along with fantastic service. The ice cream was very soft and creamy with a lot of flavor. We took pictures and just relaxed for about an hour there while talking to the employer and employees. I have and will recommend this shop to anyone going to Philly. Good luck on getting the best in the country! I definately think you can get it!

fabulous ice cream w/ so many topping choices! not to mention the chocolate and candy..... This is one of my favorite spots in Philly- I love their chocolate and vanilla frozen yogurts. And its unbelievable how many options their are for toppings! From cookie doughs (of like every kind of cookie!) to cereals (golden grahams etc) to plain chocolate chips, fruit, syrups, candy (snickers, m&m's...) and nutella (yum) -- this place will blend about anything in your ice cream (or yogurt).

I will say that I had a bad experience once when i watched the owner yell at the employees in front of us customers, but I was told that she was just freaked out about the busy holiday season. other than that i love the place. I was weary to support her shop but decided I loved the product just that much. Try out the non pareils while you're there. I'm addicted to the dark chocolate ones.

Dusty. While my sundae was ok, I think it would have been better if I hadn't noticed that all of the decorations on the walls were very very dusty. I know they're kind of hard to reach and all but still, if I can see the dust way up there, you have to wonder what else may not be so clean.

Delicious ice cream, great for a late-night treat. Scoop DeVille's ice cream is delicious, as well as incredibly diverse. There aren't many ice cream shops where you can get normal toppings (candy, nuts, etc.) as well as cereals, dough (more than just plain old chocolate chip cookie dough!), and even stuff like wheat germ in your ice cream. All toppings are blended in, not just plopped on top of your ice cream. Highly recommended is the dough - particularly oreo dough, although I'm sure all of them are great. Because they add soft dough and mix it in, instead of acting as a "topping," it blends into the ice cream and makes it even more rich and delicious.

Something to Smile About.... I work at CHOP. I just found out that there is a Scoop De Ville location in Houston Hall on Penn's campus! Now, I don't have to go all the way down town to get my fix. I can just walk two blocks and be there in no time. I love it! You have GOT to try Strawberry Shortcake and Greek Week! Those two Scoop Suggestions are totally in my top five favorites. And, they have really great customer service too! I needed to order a few ice cream cakes for a celebration in my department and they were so easy to work. Everything turned out perfect.

Standard ice cream parlor - nothing special.. Standard ice cream parlor - nothing special. Candy selection did not appear to be homemade. Overall, quite a bit disappointed.

Part candy shop, part ice cream parlor, this Center City shop is a sweet tooth's paradise.. In Short
This dessert palace fills every inch of its space with sweetness. Up front is the chocolate shop, which has the distinction of being the oldest independent retail candy business in America. In back, you'll find frozen treats--ice cream, frozen yogurt, and water ices in season. Maron's house-made candy offerings include nonpareils, chocolate-covered Oreos and marzipan. Scoop de Ville's ice cream flavors are basic--vanilla, chocolate, coffee and a few fruit flavors.
