Editorial Review for Mahogany on Walnut – by Elisa Ludwig
In Short
Among the overstuffed chairs, plush couches and cozy smoking nooks--catering to the famous, the wealthy and the masculine--relaxation is encouraged for imbibers. (Self-satisfaction is implied by the painting of a smirking Winston Churchill.) An elaborate air filtration system allows customers to puff away on cigars like Ashtons, Davidoffs and Macanudos from Holt's Cigars downstairs while they sip on their glasses of scotch and whatnot.

Sure the idea is great, the setting is nice, and the staff (by staff I mean waitresses) are great.... but you can feel really uncomfortable by the management/ownership there. Not only did I overhear the owner yell at his staff in a very inappropriate way in front of customers- but later on over heard him talking trash about a customer he was just pretending to be nice to. It was a busy night and the staff were really trying hard to take care of everyone... but with someone always stepping on your toes and making you feel about an inch tall... no wonder things were all out of sort! Personally, I would never go back to a place where they treat staff and customers in such a manner!!!
Pros: Friendly Waitresses
Cons: Harsh and Demeaning Owner

My wife and I have been to Mahogany 3 or 4 times now, and it is my favorite bar in Philly. Warm, elegant atmosphere, a TV or 2 to watch the game, friendly service, quiet. I have never seen it too crowded, even on weekends. The pizza and charcuterie (meat an cheese) plate are both very good. Good for after work; most clients are dressed well.
Pros: relatively quiet, food, drinks, atmosphere, no crowd scene
Cons: a little on the expensive side; parking, of course
