Best Dive Bar In The City. This is a great little hole in the wall that I visit any time I'm in the neighborhood. There's not much to be said about it except that it's exactly what you want from a place like this: Good beer, good drunk food and a relaxed atmosphere. To all the people complaining about it: What do you want from a dive bar? A martini and a pillow for your head?
Last of its kind. One of the last bars left of its kind. There is almost no place that can compare. You can have a great time and hang out all night for less then 20 dollars, food included. Has the vibe of Cheers but so much better. Jukebox with some great oldies as well as some new stuff. The food was great bar type food. Everyone from a college kid to an old drunk is in here truly on of the last great dive bars.
A strange anamoly in the heart of Center City.
STUPID cheap. Seriously- SO CHEAP. Right in the middle of downtown!
This is the only place I'll go between South Street and Race.
Long live Oscars.
Good times, Cheap drinks, and Good, Average people. Hello people, is oscars a dive bar, it certainly is, but those of you who don't like it, theres always the upscale, stuck up crowed up the street. Oscars is a down to earth, cheap food, friendly waitresses(well on Friday nights), a place to have fun and get some cheap drinks on(try the tall long islands). If you don't like the place after the 1st drink get a move on and give up your seat to someone who wants to have a good time with your average joe or josette;)
Baby's in a BAR?. This place is a total hole in the wall. They had some old man working the door on New Years Day, with a bunch on obnixous drunks falling out of the place and some idiot had an infant there. This place is a joke. What kind of business lets someone bring a baby into this kind of enviroment.
Very dark and smells strongly of urine!. I went here because of the strong ratings on citysearch and was sorely disappointed! Sure there is cheapish beer, but the constant smell of urine throughout the place made it not worth it! It was incredibly dark in there and very loud! I don't mind a loud bar crowd, but there were plenty of lushes that had been there way before happy hour and had enjoyed the cheap drinks to the point of being obnoxious! I would not recommend it on the basis that it smelled awful, the check did not come out in a timely manner, the waitress checked in infrequently, and the place was so dark that I could barely see what was going on around me. Honestly, it is a hole in the wall...and if that is what you are looking for - you've found it!
Center City dive continues to pack 'em in..
In Short
Tucked away on Sansom Street, away from the tony spots that give Rittenhouse Square its nightlife reputation, Oscar's continues to draw in the after-work drinkers and seekers of cheap beverages. The jukebox gives a hint to the crowds that meet at this wood-paneled institution: Top 40 compilations, R.E.M. an Frank Sinatra. The drinks are cheap, the menu consists of burgers and cheesesteaks and the vibe is remarkably attitude-free for the bar's location.
User review by irish215. cheap food, cheap drinks. Bartenders with attitude(GOOD!!). love this joint.
always satisfied. Always a great time! People are friendly, prices are reasonable, staff is excellent. Always make you feel like a regular! Great place to hang out in jeans or dressed from work. Whenever I go I say I'm staying for an hour or two after work for happy hour, but never make it home until after 2:00!
Oscars is a MUST!!!. Oscars is a great place just to be you. The crowd is very mixed, from suits to punks. The drinks and food are cheap. The service is the friendly and the best. Ask for Angel. Fridays are my favorite. They have a DJ from 7-10 There isn't really a dance floor, but people do it anyway. It is a blast. You have to try it.
