In Short
The main dining room--contemporary in style with hardwood flooring and tasteful artwork--accommodates tables of two and four, with an eight-seat sushi bar for solo patrons. Service, while friendly, operates on a less-is-more philosophy. Although other Japanese spots garner more fanfare, Shiroi is undoubtedly upper-echelon. The tuna used for both the sushi and special maki is simply sublime; the spider roll is a treat crustacean fans will salivate over.

I've been here three times. The vegetarian tofu sukiyaki is my favorite- it's one of the the most delicious dishes I've had in Philadelphia. Big thick-style mung noodles, veggies, tofu in a truly delicious hot broth. I've brought friends here for dinner before the Kimmel center, and always see at least two friends when I'm there. Attentive, knowledgeable staff - not pretentious. Warm, beautiful lighting. Cozy. My sushi-eating friends have always noted how good the place is, and if you don't like sushi, like me, there are wonderful other Japanese dishes!. You can count on this place for a good meal, warm atmosphere, good prices, with simple elegance.

Please try to minimize whatever credibility you lent to the previous review. Anyone who will publicly admit that their friendships are contingent upon a restaurant-recommendation is a pitiful product of modern cultural pretentiousness. This restaurant is NOT bad. I lived in Japan for 2 years and I've eaten lots of Sushi. I am not , therefore, an expert, but Shiroi Hana is a good value. It's unpretentious, has good service, and is worth a try. Unless you want to go out to eat with the previous reviewer, you'll probably enjoy your experience.
