What Our Expert Scouts Say

Rouge Ninety Eight Inc

The burger is the most famous dish at Rittenhouse's long-running hang, but also be cognizant of everything else the kitchen's capable of cranking out, especially when it comes to seafood.

Year after year, Rouge justifies the crowds that keep on coming back. It's a true Philly classic, a convivial spot perfect for cocktails or a full meal.

top notch. soothing ambiance and great music make for a great atmosphere. the chef has designed a beautiful french/ american menu and the kitchen turns out consistently delicious food. the service is excellent - knowledgeable and attentive without being over bearing. i've never been disapointed and always bring friends from out of town here to give them a taste of a top notch philly experience.

Good Food/Great Bistro Atmosphere. The food was very competent, and the wait staff was great. We were promptly seated. and our waitress, Jocelyn, was friendly, helpful and delightful in every way. While the much-hyped burger was good, there were other menu selections that I would recommend. The wine list was good and not over priced for this type of eatery. Will definitely go again. For those that have written less than glowing reviews, go get a Big Mac. Apparently that is the barometer with which you gauge your dining experience. Very good tuna tartare!!

Good Atmosphere. On a Friday night the bartenders seemed like they weren't able to handle the crowd. We had to wait a long time for drinks and we were sitting right at the bar. We would have stayed longer, but didn't want to wait another 20 minutes for drinks. The crowd is good looking and the atmosphere is great. I've also been on Sunday afternoons and had a much better experience with faster service.

Terrible Experience. This place is awful - terrible service, overpriced, low quality food, pretensious atmosphere. Wouldn't go back, wouldn't recommend.

Refined park-side bistro serves petite French-Asian dishes.. In Short
Oddly enough, this spot is mostly beige. The bistro's wide and shallow interior surrounds a low marble bar that divides small, round tables. Apropos of the layout, the French-Asian menu is equal parts drink and food. The popular entrees are the daily specials such as the generous omelets, garlicky mussels and soft-shell crab sandwiches with a side of watercress. The signature burger topped with Gruyere and caramelized onions comes with an indulgent side of frites.

The Holy Grail of Eggs Benedict. Look no further for the best eggs benedict in all of Philadelphia; it's right here at Rouge's brunch. The french toast is also fabulous, and on a warm spring or summer day, the outdoor seating is the best in the city, with beautiful views of Rittenhouse Square and everyone's precious little pooches joining them for a relaxing meal outside.

Great for afternoon lunches. Lunch is good. The tables are small but sitting outside on warm days people watching is always fun. Walnut Street shopping is an added plus.

Small cafe, big on charm. Rouge sits on one of the sides of Rittenhouse Square, meaning you can be sure to people-watch from one of the outdoor tables whether it's the proximate foot traffic or across in the R-Sqr park. Its small interior is bent on becoming a velvety lounge apres dinner. I had fine & attentive service by one of the "little-black-dress" clad waitresses, she was very kind & helpful. The bib lettuce salad with roquefort cheese & spiced cashews was excellent as well as the pan-seared proscuitto wrapped halibut with lentils. The halibut was cooked to perfection, with excellent consistency. The warm chocolate flourless cake was all right, but it's $4 addt'l to transform it to a la mode! It was amusing to watch the bartender tend to partrons in the central circular bar. It can be casual, but the Happy Hour seems to attract some suits.
