Best meatloaf I've ever had!.
OK, I'm basing my review on 1 meal from my first (but definitely not last!) visit to the Marathon Grill on 16h and Samson. Also, I was hungry. But still, I'm sure that was the best meatloaf I've
ever eaten -- quality meat, great consistency, very flavorful by itself, and then covered with a spicy/sweet ketchupy BBQ sauce that was just delicious. The wilted spinach tasted very fresh and was mixed with sliced garlic gloves, and the mashed potatoes were light and creamy (though they had nothing on the meatloaf). And this was after schlepping my food 8 blocks in a to-go container back to my hotel. So, I can't really speak to the service or the rest of the menu, but I can't recommend the meatloaf highly enough.
I may have to go back again tomorrow night.…
A brunch full of surprises..... We had an interesting experience at a recent brunch at Marathon Grill. My husband ordered the eggs benedict, I ordered the bacon egg and cheese sandwich on english muffin. He got a dish without any hollandaise sauce, I got a lump of scrambled eggs, no bacon, on a stale roll with a brown piece of avocado and barbecue sauce on top (yuck!) . Because it was so crowded and our food took a while to come, we decided to just suck it up and eat our brunches....but there were more surprises to come. Hubby takes a big bite of his eggs, and all of a sudden spits something out - I thought it would be a shell, but it turned out to be a lemon pit! And I go in to take a bite of mine, and on my fork I see a hair (not mine) with a piece of gray fuzz attached to it! After this experience, I don't think we will be returning to Marathon for a while.…
Good food but horrible service!!. I just went to this place today after researching it on Citysearch last night. It had a good menu and received some good reviews as a good brunch place so I thought I would take my family and try it out. I am now sorta regretting that decision. We arrived there about 11am and 2 of my family members went in ahead of my mom and I while we went to park the car. That took about 10-15 mins so we urged them to order while they waited for us. My mom and I ordered about 10 mins after my other family members and they still waited about 30 mins after we got there for their meals and we waited about 45 mins. And even after all of the waiting, my meal wasn't even prepared correctly and I was still missing a side dish. We complained to the waitress about the wait because everyone else around us, even those that came in after us, were receiving their food. She explained that there was not much that she could do about it because she had placed the order and it was now out of her hands but eventually she did get the manager to take care of things. In the end our entire meal was comped and that made up for some of the inconvenience but I would have never chosen to eat at this place had I known that it would have taken 45 mins to get the food. That was ridiculous! I would probably be willing to try another Marathon Grill location because the food was good, but I would never go back to this one or recommend it!…
breakfast all day!. its better than a diner! if you want lots of options for different meals any time of day, a fun atmosphere AND reasonable prices then you should go here. the pancakes are so good!!
Total Disappointment and Waste of Time. From the moment I walked into Marathon Grill, the disgruntled attitude of the hostess should have convinced me to walk right back out. As this was my first time there, I decided to give it a shot anyway. After waiting 20 min's for a table, I was finally seated in a table that was not only incredibly small and awkward even for 2, but it was also clearly in the path of incoming diners and wait staff. My waiter wasn't exactly rude, but he clearly either despises his job or simply doesn't care. It took approximately 10 min's to place my order. My coffee was brought out about 5 minutes later missing the sugar I had asked for and with no napkins or utensils available. After asking for a spoon, I was finally brought a napkin and fork, but no spoon. My boyfriend and I both ordered omelets and a stack of pancakes to share. I could have easily gotten the same quality omelet at Denny's for half the price. The waiter helped to overcrowd the table even more by bringing two plates with 1 1/2 pancakes each (we had asked to share them--he took it as we needed it literally split in half). My side of turkey sausage was barely edible, even after sawing at it to cut it into pieces. I could have spent $1 at the grocery store and gotten better turkey sausage. The quality of bacon at Burger King far exceeds the quality of the bacon at Marathon Grill. When I finally caught the waiters attention to ask for a coffee refill, he proceeded to take my half full cup, took it away for about 5 min's and finally brought it back having simply added a little additional coffee with his hands around the rim of the mug. (who does that??) In summary, rude hostess + inattentive and unintelligent wait staff + below average food = Worst Brunch I've ever had at almost $50 for 2. I hightly recommend skipping Marathon Grill and heading right over to Famous 4th St Deli where the food is perfectly priced and always exceeds expectations.…
