What Our Expert Scouts Are Saying

Bec-Fin (Le)
After what seemed like years of Downton Abbey-caliber drama, the restaurant credited with making Philadelphia a top-tier dining town closed its doors. And then, just like that, it was back: Le Bec Fin 2.0, run by former French Laundry manager Nicolas Fanucci and chef Walter Abrams, another Laundry transfer. The old guard haute cuisine approach — $150 jacket-required tastings, polished sommelier service, the whole lot — is back, energized by Abrams' panache for unconventional flavors. With so many restaurants slipping on hyper-casual shorts these days, a pedestaled proposition like LBF is a welcome new-old change. (PHOTOS: Elise Wrabetz)

They really work the 'voila!' feeling of experiencing your food here — you get the presentation, the aroma, the taste, my god , the taste.

Not everyone can afford a $150 tasting, and that's where the more affordable Chez Georges come in: food from same kitchen, much lower prices

Pampered. I try to get here at least twice a year and every time I literally float out of the building. The service is always impeccable and the place looks fantastic. The entrees are sublime and the desserts are as wonderful as they are plentiful. Furthermore the wine list is impressive with delineations made between appellations. It's a very civilized experience; one feels so pampered.

A truly memorable experience. I was treated to lunch here by a friend and I was really blown away. Everything was absolutely perfect, from the ample, crusty rolls to the attentive yet not overbearing service--and, of course, the food! If you're ever going to have escargot, this is the place to savor it. Be prepared to sample as many desserts as your stomach can handle and leave on a real sugar rush!

Sure it's pricey but the lunch $45 three-course deal is actually not that bad. Just skip spending $15+ for a single glass of wine if you're on a budget (which was very good, but I'll pay that for a nice BOTTLE at home, thanks). If you really want to sample some of the best that Philly has to offer, you really have to go here at least once.

A date to remember. I had the whole night planned out and I wanted to do this right. I have been to many great restaurants like antoin's and comanders palace and wanted to add Le Bec to the list. I went out and bought my lady a dress and made sure that we were the best dressed couple there and really made the experience an event. The food was decadent, and I left very satisfied. The bill I would gladly pay again for such a fine dining experience. This place is an amusement park for the taste buds!

OVER-RATED. This has got to be the most overrated restaurant in history. The food here is good, not superior. The problem with this restaurant,as with most french restaurants,is that you could have a 9 course dinner,as i did,and still be hungry afterwards. Also, while some of the dishes were creative and stylish,it wasn't enough to overcome the outrageous prices Mr. Perrier charges for eating at his establishment.

Perfection. The only, and I stress only, disappointment with Le Bec Fin comes later in the evening. As a recent Sex in the City episode highlighted with Charlotte's decadent multi-course meal at what , Le Bec Fin's superb food causes your mind to ignore reason, and physical sensations, and continue to eat to the point of gluttony.

My two times dining at Le Bec Fin are far too few in number and I look forward to many more meals there, even in spite of any discomfort my overeating there causes.

best dining experience ever. Celebrated my birthday last spring with a great dinner experience at Le Bec Fin. It wasn't just the food OR the service, but the combination of superb food AND service made the experience truly great. Dover sole was the best! The atmosphere wasn't that romantic b/c you feel like you lined up against the wall, but still nice.

Returned during the recent Restaurant Week. Not too impressed with the food b/c everything was too salty. Read in the paper that the Bar downstairs is continuing the 3-course dinner for $35 through October. I hope the quality of food does not suffer...

Not just Philadelphia's best. Le Bec-Fin is clearly among the top five French restaraunts in the country if not the world. Elegant and tasteful without being "over the top". A wine list that rivals any public venue in the world. The food and service? It doesn't get better than this. There is no justice if their star isn't returned. The best place I can think of to max out your credit card and your belt.
