Fell in Love

I went to Susanna Foo on a Sunday night and had a very romantic experience. The dining room was very elegant and the service was outstanding. We started with a dumpling sampler and the tuna tasting for appetizers. For entree I had the scallop dish and it was delicious. My husband had tea smoked duck dish and was very impressed. We shared a btl of red wine our meal and had a nice port with dessert. Over all I had a great experience.

What a Total Disappointment!

We were really looking forward to dining at Susanna Foo for restaurant week - but boy, was I disappointed. We had made our reservations several weeks in advance and when we arrived for dinner, instead of being sat in the main dining room on the first floor (which has a lovely ambience) we were taken upstairs to what appeared to be a rarely used back room and sat at a plastic folding table (!!) covered with a tablecloth right near the busboy and waiter station. It was kind of like being sat at the "kid's table" while all the adults ate in the other room. The service was fine but couldn't make up for the D-List atmosphere.

The menu was surprisingly brief and uninspired. The dumplings and hot and sour soup were servicible, but I have certainly had better at hole-in-the-wall Chinatown places. We chose the cold sesame noodles and the pad thai for our entrees, and while the sesame noodles were good (albeit a strange offering for an entree) the pad thai was a disgrace - bland, underseasoned, colorless, gummy.

The wine list consisted of exactly four choices - we chose a bottle of merlot that was fine, until we got to the last glasses, which were cloudy and full of sediment. Very unappetizing.

All in all, I was shocked at the atmosphere (or lack thereof) and being relegated to some "overflow" room, especially considering the fact that we made our reservations weeks in advance and paid well over $100 for a dinner for two.

I've had far better food from Chinese take-outs or at any number of places in Philly's Chinatown. Don't waste your money at this place. Its reputation is outdated and frankly, undeserved.

Worst food I had this summer .

the appetizers were great, the entrees were horrible, the service good, the price too high. Will never eat there again.
