Ruth's Chris Steak House is the place that showed the world how great a steak can be. Steaks are carefully selected and aged for tenderness, cut thick to ensure juiciness and seared to perfection at 1800 degrees. It's seasoned simply with salt, black pepper and a touch of parsley, because a steak like this needs nothing else. It's also topped with fresh butter that sizzles seductively on your plate, announcing the arrival of a great steak. At Ruth's Chris, sizzle is more than the mouthwatering sound that accompanies your steak from the broiler to the table. Here, sizzle is a state of mind,…

In Short – This offshoot of a popular New Orleans hangout for politicians features decor of dark woods and comfortable booths, with a separate bar scene. Choice cuts of custom-aged beef arrive in sizzling butter on 500-degree plates. The menu also offers chicken, pork and seafood entrees along with Creole appetizers like shrimp remoulade. Family-style sides include gargantuan onion rings, creamed spinach and various styles of potatoes. Traditional homemade desserts like cheesecake and bread pudding conclude the meal.

Went there on Monday night and was able to get a table without a reservation. The food was great. Got the fillet with mushrooms and potatoes al graten. The side portions are big. Fillet was perfect.
Cocktails were pricey at $12 per drink. Paid $145 for two with no apps, just salad, 3 drinks, dinner and 1 dessert.
- Pros: Excellent Food
- Cons: Price
For the Price - it could be better

During January 2009's Restaurant's Week, me and a group of friends decided to experience the cuisine at this restaurant. While the staff goes through the motions of performing their duties, i.e. parking your car; hanging your coat; seating you; and taking your order, they are not as friendly and warm as we expected or have experienced at other restaurants in Center City. Don't get me wrong, they were not rude, but there was something missing from the sincerity of their words.
The food was average. Two of our guests had Salmon and both complained of it being dry.
With Philadelphia having so many fine restaurants to choose from, this is not a restaurant I will be visiting again. I was disappointed.
- Cons: Tables situated too closely; Staff not very friendly, but not rude; food was dry
awful, awful, awful

as in food, service, and value. i have been there 10 times in the last 15 years and have had enough. TRUST ME PLEASE; even if you have to wait two hours for a table, walk across the street, head north on broad st a couple of blocks towards city hall, and go to capital grille. it will be a smart decision.
PS-i think citysearch needs to figure out how to total ratings. this dump should have a cumlative rating of two and a half or three stars, not four and a half. check it out.
- Pros: great location, totally wasted.

At Ruth's Chris, sizzle is more than the mouthwatering sound that accompanies your steak from the broiler to the table. Here, sizzle is a state of mind, an attitude, a personality that could have only been born in New Orleans. As Ruth Fertel once said, "It's the sizzle that sets us apart from the stuffy, stodgy, old-line steak houses. You have a great steak at Ruth's Chris, but you also have a great time, and you always leave with great memories."
