Don't Waste Your Time.
We live less than 2 miles from Hana, so we were really hoping to find a little gem in our neighborhood. We were not seated at all the both times we tried to go. The first time we entered the
restaurant and waited for the host to seat us. The restaurant was not busy - about half full, which means perhaps 4 tables were seated. It took the hostess over 5 minutes to even acknowledge our presence. Then she looked around at the tables for a bit, then she walked to the other side to have a long talk with the sushi chef. We realized she was not eager to seat us, so we left, very annoyed.
The second time we went was about 6 months later. We walked in around 6:15 pm and the restaurant was again, only half full. The same hostess asked us if we had a reservation and we said no. She then talked to the Sushi Chef from across the room (in Japanese, so we didn't understand what she said) and then she looked at us and said, "sorry, we don't have any tables." We were shocked and of course, left. She could have said we're booked, but something will open in 30 minutes, or any other number of polite responses. We will never go back.…
Just Note to these who don't know real sushi....
Hi All, I just wante to make a note here. In Japan, real sushi is about nigiri (slice of fish + wasabi on rice) and maki. The makis are made of usually fresh fish (of one kind!), rice, and nori
outside (wasabi is inside). there are non-fish version, cooked version, sometimes, such as kanpyo-maki, futomaki, etc.
What I wanted to say here is that these big all sorts of crazy fish mixed rolls are American creation (or created mostly by Chinese chefs?) and we never have such thing in Japan, at least in a authetic sushi restaurant in Japan. (authentic sushi-ya like Kuruma-zushi in NYC also does not serve these mixed big rolls)
So, when someone who does not know real sushi calls "basic" rolls (these are the real rolls) boring and bad, thinking that these big rolls are Japanese, they are totally wrong. You can hide the real taste and how well the rice was prepared (most restaurants fail here), how well the roll was rolled (again, many times it is too strongly rolled) with the big mix rolls. You don't need much skills to make these big ones. The simple rolls are Japanese rolls, just wante to clarify here:)…
Avoid it!.
Just went to Hana for the first time and will not return. The sushi selection was limited and very overpriced. Maki choices were basic with nothing creative to offer. All of the 6 rolls we ordered
were dry and bland. Even the two "spicy" ones didn't stand out as spicy. The presentation was the worst I've ever seen. Every roll was just sliced and placed on the plate. I don't expect much in the way of presentation, but generally sushi chefs are able to add maximum appeal with subtle touches. They didn't even include the end pieces of tempura shrimp to play it up. The texture of the rolls was uninteresting, as were the flavors. I've never been so unsatisfied with a sushi meal.
All in all - bland and extremely overpriced.…
not good enough for the price.
I've had sushi for all my life, and this is not a really good place for sushi - they charge too much money for ridiculously little amount of food.
In fact, their sushi itself would be ok if they charge a lot less that they actually do. Also, their selections for delux sushi and chirashi are so poor. For example, if they want to charge 20 dollars for the deluxe chirashi, they need to include much more than tiny pieces of regular types of sushi such as tuna and yellow tail. For the same kind of selections(but better quality), Mikado charges less. For the same amount of money, Sagami has much better selections.
Most of all, the sushi chef is too young to serve good sushi.…
Best Japanese Food EVER!. Love it love it love it!!! Finally a place where you know the appetizers such as the dumplings aren't of the pre-packaged store bought frozen variety! I asked the owner and sushi chef and was told that they make all their food from scratch. Their seafood for sushi and sashimi is absolutely delicious, you can tell its high quality and extremely fresh. Each slice of fish is cut when an order is placed, not pre-cut or cut by machines as some other places do. Everything on their menu reminds me of when I lived in Japan... and tastes like it to! When they say authentic, they mean authentic. Try their tempura! That's what it's meant to look like... not the thick battered onion rings that other places try to pass off as Japanese tempura... Their prices are more than reasonable and it's always a pleasure to eat there. Highly recommended! Enjoy!…
