Editorial Review for Hana Japanese – by Michael Alarcon
In Short
Wooden booths and sparse decor make for a Zen-like dining atmosphere, as does the efficient and unobtrusive service. All of Hana's food is lovingly prepared, but the sushi really shines. The selection is standard, but elegant in its simplicity and freshness. Choose from a variety of rolls including an enticing vegetable trio and a spicy California roll. Among entrees, the teriyaki chicken is a little fatty, but fares better on sticks as sweet yakitori.

Just went to Hana for the first time and will not return. The sushi selection was limited and very overpriced. Maki choices were basic with nothing creative to offer. All of the 6 rolls we ordered were dry and bland. Even the two "spicy" ones didn't stand out as spicy. The presentation was the worst I've ever seen. Every roll was just sliced and placed on the plate. I don't expect much in the way of presentation, but generally sushi chefs are able to add maximum appeal with subtle touches. They didn't even include the end pieces of tempura shrimp to play it up. The texture of the rolls was uninteresting, as were the flavors. I've never been so unsatisfied with a sushi meal. All in all - bland and extremely overpriced.
Pros: easy location, BYOB
Cons: over-priced, reservations requried, underwhelming food.

I've had sushi for all my life, and this is not a really good place for sushi - they charge too much money for ridiculously little amount of food. In fact, their sushi itself would be ok if they charge a lot less that they actually do. Also, their selections for delux sushi and chirashi are so poor. For example, if they want to charge 20 dollars for the deluxe chirashi, they need to include much more than tiny pieces of regular types of sushi such as tuna and yellow tail. For the same kind of selections(but better quality), Mikado charges less. For the same amount of money, Sagami has much better selections. Most of all, the sushi chef is too young to serve good sushi.
Pros: easy parking
Cons: you will still be hungry after paying for more than 25 dollars on their deluxe sushi and miso soup.
