Great Greek Food in Glenside. I read the mixed reviews on Athena so I was a little leary about going there, especially on a show night at the nearby Keswick theater. All I can say is that the people who gave this restaurant poor reviews must have eaten at a different place.

First, the service was absolutely excellent. Our waiter, Salvatore, greeted us within 2 minutes of our sitting down and I had grilled octopus appetizer in front of me less than 10 minutes later. It was almost too fast! Incidentally, that grilled octo was superb. That's one of my favorite apps and I had been looking forward to trying it - it was delicate on the inside, nicely grilled on the outside. This was a better preparation than I had of the same dish at Babbo in New York.

The rest of the meal was just excellent Greek food presented very nicely. My wife had the veal rack special and I had the sampler plate which they call Pikelia. Everything was perfect and tasted exactly as I would expect home-made Greek food to taste my favorite item was the Mousaka. I don't care for stuffed grape leaves and I didn't care for them here either. Go figure.

Next time you are going to the Keswick, make a 6 or 6:15 reservation and bring along a bottle of Pinot or other light to medium Italian wine. I doubt that you will be disappointed.

enjoyable. wow, this was seriously a great meal!

my husband selected a nice wine and surprised me with a dinner out. as soon as we walked in, it was like a whole different world! the decorations are authentic and it smelled so good in there.

for an appetizer i got the "sampler". it contain kafteri, baba ganoush, tzatiki and hummus, and my favorite, stuffed grape leaves! It was a slower night, so we were served right away. for my entree i order the spanakopita, which was incredible! its hard to find such a good spinach pie!

it was, unfortunately, incredibly difficult to find parking. however, it was totally worth the walk!

GREAT FOOD. LOVE this local place! BYOB but PLUSH restaurant/bar next door sells a variety of single bottles. Owner of this place is passionate about his greek food, and works hard at it. I have never had a bad experience here. Love to sit outside during warmer months. Steak cubes in a pita, green beans, and potatos EVERY time! Desserts are homemade.

Authentic Greek fare, right down to the spit-roasted goat.. In Short
Eating at Athena is like walking into a big, fat Greek festival: lively, traditional folk music is piped though the speakers, ceramic dolls line the walls. Garlic and olive oil lovers will rave about the hummus and baba ghanoush. Givetzi, a baked orzo dish with marinated lamb, is flavorful and filling, and the spanakopita strikes just the right balance between feta that melts in your mouth and spinach that tastes just-picked.

Great Greek Food!. Athena's is a great place - nice location, food is outstanding - I highly recommend the appetizer sampler - the hummus and tzaziki are the best! Only down side, service a little slow!
