What was the name of the restaurant before it was called Marco Polo, it was Cafe Raffaello...but I'm not sure of the spelling, and are they the same owners...Thank you.
Great Calamari and Even Better Wine. We always stop here on the way home to Ambler from Philly. Its is a very friendly and warm atmosphere. The service is top of the line. I love the drinks and the food. It is one my favorites.
About A Rare Unpleasant Experience At Marco Polo.
My husband and I had possibly the worst experience possible tonight. Our server, Lauren, was not only horribly unattentive, she ignored us for most of the visit. She didn't offer the basics to our meals (parmesan or fresh pepper), didn't inform the plate was hot while handing it to my husband, didn't refill any of our drinks (we had to ask for refills after she passed our table numerous times), didn't apologize for a unpleasurable entree (my husband ordered the risotto, which was just under cooked white rice), she gave him a rather unappreciative expression, and appeared extremely judgmental towards our appearance (We were wearing normal attire for dining at Marco Polo, but my husband has a lot of tattoos and I have facial piercings). She also did these things to the couple behind us (which, did not look the least bit happy either), but was highly attentive and kind to the family across from us. The manager, Franciso, was wonderful about the situation and made the horrific experience tolerable to a slight degree. He is also the reason as to why we will be coming back in the future. Since, my husband has been coming here for three restaurant name changes. However, we will ask to not be seated in Lauren's section.
I do not normally go to this extremes about horrible service, because there are levels of, well, just bad service. However, because she was treating us differently than the family of visual normality, and has been there since December, is reason enough to share this.
A Touch of Italy! #1 Italian Restaurant in Phily. Amazing service, Delicious food from first bite to last. And a Tiramisu to die for. This place in Elkins Park was an amazing experience. My kids love going there and so does my Husband and mom. Whole fish done table side is an amazing experience to watch. I would recommend the Filet topped with crabmeat or any of their delicious pasta dishes. They have the best bread in the world and everyone who waited on us and met us at the door made our experience that much better. I would recommend this restaurant to everyone. A must check out if you are in the area.!!!
fabulous food great service.
we always enjoy our food here. The cuisine is wonderful and the service is impeccable. I love the specials-especially the steak with crabmeat.
Their bar is great and we love this place
Best Place for Veal Parm in the World!. Marco Polo of Elkins Park has the best veal parmesan hands down or should I say forks up. What a Great place everyone was so nice and did I mention how great the food is there! The folks there were so nice to me, my wife, Helen and the family. 5 stars all the way. Keep up the great work. Also, thanks Tony for such a great job you truly made our Marco Polo experience a night to remember. See you soon for Restaurant Week. Great Job Marco Polo!
Geez.
I wish I had trusted the review by pandt2 before I went to this place. One of my colleague recommended this place, and it did have decent reviews until recent. I thought I may give it a try.
So we went to this place for my wife's birthday - as we all liked Italian food, and had good experience at some other Italian restaurants.
Initial service was OK since we walked in before the dinner rush. Bread, as described by pandt2, surely was cold. I ordered a steak, my wife ordered a spaghetti. Steak was ok.
The spaghetti, was, according to the gentleman serving our table, cooked just "right". We, however, disagreed. The spaghetti was hard, that's not a problem. It had the taste of uncooked flour, that is not OK. Therefore, we sent it back to the kitchen, twice. Well, now it tasted like spaghetti that took a quick shower and subsequently underwent two sauna bathes in a microwave - the flavor of uncooked flour remained.
Figuring we are not authentic Italian (well, obvious from our looks), the gentleman gave us a lecture on how spaghetti should be cooked, that is, the spaghetti was cooked "right" when he served it the first time. We are suppose to order it "well done" should we dislike the way it was served in the first place. After my wife tried to explain to him why she thought the spaghetti was not properly cooked, the gentleman replied " I don't know what you are talking about."
Well, I guess we'd better find a culinary school for Italian cuisine and graduate, until then, we are not authorized to eat at their restaurant.
Well, the website does not allow me to leave the rating blank ... ...
oh my.
We sat down and it took over ten minutes for the waitress to come over.
They brought water over right away-- I recommend the water best thing in the restaurant.
Then they served olives floating in oil. They slid down fast and came out even faster.
Joining the olives was a cold hoagie roll which consisted of a soft crust and tasted like white bread. It was hiding in a basket, wish I did not find it. Then we where asked, would we like something to drink I got coffee. Nothing like a lukewarm weak cup of coffee with a cold roll. Then the minestrone soup appeared. It looked like a private swimming pool of water which there was a four vegetable limit allowed to swim at a time. But it was still better then what was coming next, the main course. They brought out the lasagna and it look like road kill. It was flat, about a half inch high and the sauce looked like blood stuffed into a small casserole dish. I got the grand prize spaghetti with a carbonara sauce and salmon . I never saw salmon served quarter of an inch thick and the skin still attached and it had a strange taste. Then I started eating the spaghetti and it had an unusual taste. Then I realized after a few bites it was sour . I left right away, got home and I was sick for two days.
Bon appetite!
very very fine food and service.
Had our bachelorette dinner here and the service was very very good, the food was super and they really did such a nice job of assisting us in choosing food and drinks.
