I went to this place because I had a groupon discount for haircut, blowdry + full highlights. Let me just say my hair was a complete mess. It was black for a while, and I had bleached it myself (for the first time ever) to try and get it lightened a bit so my hairdresser had something to work with. It turned out very uneven and blotchy so I eventually just gave up and went in with low expectations. First of all, Marissa was very nice and efficient, and she didn't say anything rude or judgmental about my hair situation (though it would have been completely warranted!!) I told her that I didn't care what she did, since anything would have been an improvement. She ended up putting in blonde highlights and dyed the rest of my hair chocolate brown, and it turned out amazing. She also took about 4 inches off and gave me a side bang, which also looked great. I felt so much better about myself and will definitely return (especially if I can get another groupon - they are a bit pricey for my current financial situation). I should note that the owner, Skip, was there as well and he was extremely friendly and complimentary regarding my new 'do.

Butchered my co-workers hair. Uneven cut, with straggler pieces 3-5 inches longer than the rest of her hair.

no shampoo, blow dry or style, 7 minutes to mangle her hair, $60.00

Great hair cut. I recently moved to the area and had to find a new hair salon. I decided to try A Cut Above and scheduled an appointment with Marissa. I got highlights and a haircut. Marissa did a great job, the color and cut looked great. I will definitely be back!

An Awesome Haircut for Those Who Hate Haircuts!. To put it bluntly, I hate getting my hair cut. Until this past week, the last time I'd gotten it cut was sometime before November 2010. I went in and asked Sophie what she thought I should do (how much needed to go!) and how she could make me look like I'd gotten a REAL hair cut, not just several inches off the bottom. My angles and layers look excellent, and my bangs have been restored a flattering length! My cut is fresh and clean, and I'm truly impressed by the ability Sophie had to work with me as a blank slate. I left the salon feeling great about my long-put-off cut!

Like you are part of the family. A had my hair cut, colored and blown out. Skip took the time to listen to how much time I like to spend on my hair each day, explain how the cut I had at the time did not work with my face shape and suggested a new length which turned out perfect. I complained that my hair was too red which also did not go with my skin tone. That was fixed as well. He showed me new tricks with a flat iron even though I knew it all from using one for the past 20 years. Amy gave a great shampoo, color app and wonderful blow dry that lasted 6 days. They also carry a small selection of products but most importantly, Moroccan Oil at very competitive prices. Regular pricing is comparable to other salons on the Main Line but they make you feel very welcome, almost like family. I am so happy I saw Skip and Amy and plan to be their customers for a long, long time.

Great haircut!. I went to get my hair colored, cut and highlighted. New to the area I got the recommendation from a friend.

Skip did a wonderful cut and I love the color. If you want a great cut go to this salon.

Finally Found a Great Hair Salon. I went to A Cut Above for the first time after Skip was able to slot me in for a last minute appointment. He was great! Gave a fabulous consultation and really listened to what I wanted. As for that review about the shower cap and pulling hair through, obviously that person has never had gentle highlights before and doesn't understand that this is now preferrable over the old foil method. I will definately be going back here. Be advised, they get busy on saturdays, so I would recommend going for an early morning appointment.

What a joke!. I made the mistake to try this place a few weeks ago. I read some of the positive reviews and although the shop looks really run down, I made an appointment for cut and color with Skip. Once inside, I could not help but notice the outdated decor and overall dusty environment. After getting a shampoo from an older lady, Skip went to work. Obviously I could not believe my eyes when he put a plastic supermarket cap on my head and started to pry my hair through the holes. To make a long story short, I came out looking and feeling very cheap. Please take my advise and avoid this dump! I should have known better just by driving by and seeing the empty parking lot. For some reason I'm not believing the positive reviews now, must be some people with very low standards...
