Tips for Lowry Electric, Plumbing, Heating & Cooling

March 22, 2013

I am not one to write reviews but I felt the need to do so. I recently needed 4 under the cabinet flourescent lights installed. I contacted a few electricians to get a few estimates. One company came out free of charge and gave me an estimate of $208.00 to complete the job, unfortunately they were booked until mid to late April. I then contacted Lowry Electric very professional on the phone was told no free estimate have minimum service charge of $49.95 which is applied to the overall job if I elected to use them. I rolled the dice and scheduled a service appointment with them. (How much different could their estimate be?) The electrican arrived on time and I discussed with him what I needed to have done and then told me he needed a few minutes to review and write up an estimate. A few minutes went by and I was given an estimate of $697.00. My jaw hit the floor. $697.00 to replace 4 18inch flourescent light, 2 of which I had already removed for the electrican. $697.00 verses $208.00. I told the electrican in as nice a manner as I could muster that I just wasted $49.95 to be completely over charged. He then went into is corporate dialogue of how we are insured, blah, blah. I said the bottom dollar is what matters to me. Why would I pay you $697.00 when I can get the job done for $208.00. Granted I had to wait a few weeks but for $500.00 difference I would. The electrican then asked for a few minutes to see if he could do anthing better on his estimate. He then comes back with a $397.00 counter offer. So he went from $697.00 to $397.00 is a span of a few minutes. I said again why would I pay you $200.00 more when I already had been quoted $208.00. I countered with $249.95 since I already had to pay this company $49.95 to do nothing plus the $208.00 it would cost me with the other company. Against my better judgement and because I did not want to wait a few weeks to get the job done I paid $347.04 for Lowry to do the job. $139.00 more after all the negotiations. $347.04 for 4 lights that took the electrian 15 minutes per light. Arrived at 9:00 AM was out the door by $10:30 AM. The long and short is if you want a job done fast and be grossly over charged then Lowry Electric is for you.

Do not use these guys unless you wish to overpay for a job. They're quote was highly overpriced to replace a blower motor in my furnace. They quoted $1300 to put in a motor that would cost a maximum $200 and take less than an hour to replace (I did the job myself with a $90.00 motor and 45 minutes of work). Afterwards, I could not get any breakdown for the price of the job from a manager; he just stated overhead, insurance and blah blah blah.

I met with a Representative for an estimate on a new furnace and air conditioner. The guys name was Frank, he was very professional, explained everything thoroughly. The different systems and effcicencies, how much it would save on my utilities. My wife liked the warranties they offered and a money back guarantee we both liked. We had 3 other estimates 1 higher, 2 lower but Frank was head and shoulders above the others in how he helped us. He got us approved for financing for a 0% plan for 5 years which was better than my home equity rate. We thought the installers did a great job, they were clean and got the job done in 1 day as promised, although I thought they would not since it seemed like so much work. The products, the professionalism from the whole team was impressive especially considering my wife and I had some not so nice experiences with the old company we used. I highly recommend them, Lowry.

Terrible Service Today - 4.16.12. Lowry agreed to come out and provide an estimate for an HVAC system. They first pushed back the time of the meeting from 3:00 to 5:00, no problem. At 5:00, I called to confirm they were coming. They're unable to confirm. At 5:15, their technician called and was difficult. He was still more than fifteen minutes away and after I expressed my disappointment with their scheduling he said he wasn't coming at all because we wouldn't be a "good fit." I'm not sure who would be a good fit, but I don't have extra to be waiting around to get an estimate on an HVAC installation. So, unfortunately, it seems like there not the same company they used to be. Too bad, but would strongly recommend that you steer clear.

WAY OVERPRICED- STAY AWAY unless you have money to BURN!. I called these guys and had them come out for an estimate for a clogged drain. They quoted $485.00 to clean out my drain with a snake from the curb. I couldn't believe how much they wanted. I reaffirmed with the technician saying "you want $485 to snake the vent"? He said yes and I said goodbye. Had the same exact job completed 1.5 hours later for $100 (Active Sewer and Drain). I'm still amazed that they had the audacity. STAY AWAY from these price gougers.

Review for Lowry Electric. I would recommend Lowry Services. I recently had a technician come out to our house. He was very informative, on time, and there was no sales pressure.

My husband and I had time to review the quote. I called their office a few days later and again was handed very timely, and profession by one of their customer care representatives.

I would recommend Lowry Services to others.

hvac tech bob @ lowry services is a trure ace. i had an issue with my electric furnace recently. i called carney plumbing and heating who came out not only once but twice to tell me nothing was wrong. i got sick of dealing with them and tried scattons, who also told me nothing was wrong. i was about to give up when a friend told me about lowry services. he told me they were a little pricey, but well worth it. he had his system repaired last week by a tech named bob. he said this guy looked ex military, but was a real ace and knew what he was doing and fixed his unit. i called lowry and requested bob. my friend was right. they showed up on time, in a great looking van and bob did look ex military. i explained to him what was wrong and showed him to the furnace. he said give me a few minutes to look it over and i'll see what i come up with. within 10 minutes he came and got me and explained that my heat sequencer(part that turns on electric heat strips) was bad and was only bringing on 5kw instead of the full 10 kw. he got out his price book and explained about the price and all the discounts that come with a membership plan including a heating tune up and 25% discount on repairs. he had the part in his van and said he could fix it right now, of cource i said yes. the total repair bill was under $350.00 and it was fixed right. i felt the heat the minute he replaced the part. i spent over $400.00 on the other 2 companies and nothing. i now have a new contractor to use, who has 1 of the best techs i've every ran into. god bless lowry services and bob. i hope lowry realizes how awesome of a tech bob is.

If you want a real Rip-Off - Lowry is just for you.. HERE ARE THE FACTS:

For a small job estimated by the Lowry electrician to last 2 hr the labor estimate ran to $600+. Lowry takes pride in 'quoting the job not an hourly rate' which means that the electrician study a big folder with individual price elements and then add together for the 'price of the job'. Very impressive since it lends an air of honesty and objectivity. "How can it be wrong when it comes right out of an official looking 4 color printed book?"

HERE IS REALITY:

Exactly the same job was quoted afterwards by 2 reputable contractors at $210 and $235.
