What Our Expert Scouts Are Saying
South Philly's large Cambodian population doesn't have a ton of public restaurants for curious non-natives to visit, but Khmer Kitchen looks to change all that, home-cooking classics from the small Southeast Asian nation at insanely fair prices everyone can agree upon. The cash-only BYOB is small, but do your best to bring a friend or three — the portions are huge for the price and you're going to want to share. Or maybe not, considering just how kick-ass their sah-law macheu kahteeh (a meaty savory-sour soup) and bok la-hong (sliced papaya salad) taste.

Not sure what to order? Start with a section of the grilled meat sticks (beef, chicken, and meatball). Follow by the refreshing and spicy bok la-hong (papaya) salad. Then a big bowl of sah-law machue kre' ung (beef sour soup).

It's amazing how spicy a salad can get, but the Nyum Sahdau salad - with bitter melon flowers, shredded cabbage, chicken, cucumbers and jalapenos used like lettuce - is about as cheek-flushing, nose-running as it gets.

KK's signature prah-hok kahteeh consists of an awesomely funky ground pork/fish paste sauce plated with raw veggies for digging or dipping.
