What Our Expert Scouts Are Saying
Spiga, from the team behind Le Castagne, brings an accessible Italian approach to the straight-hoppin' 13th Street corridor. Set in a completely overhauled restaurant space that's been a million things, Spiga (Italian for "spike," as in a stalk of wheat) is aiming for longevity, with a laidback menu that differs greatly from Castagne's fancier Rittenhouse digs. Many house specialties come out of the kitchen's dual wood-burning ovens (pizzas, steaks, stuffed pork chops, whole fish), but also look out for hand-crafted carby goodness like cavatelli and orecchiette.

Italian or not, Spiga's burger (angus,
herbed goat cheese, applewood smoked bacon, onion mostarda) is serious Americano business.
