Who wants an abominable upscale dining experience?. Above and beyond the WORST "upscale dining" experience I've had in Philadelphia, NYC and Miami combined. We had a 9pm reservation and arrived at 8:30pm for a drink at the bar with a great view (the only good part about this toxic place). The mojito was undrinkable. 2 rounds later, it was 9:45pm, with no appearance from the hostess. Shortly after 10pm, we hadn't been seated and informed the hostess we were leaving. They auto-responded, "Do you want to speak with a manager?" At which point someone appeared to take us to our table. 15 minutes later, no drink or bread, the waitress took our order. She returned about 10 minutes later to say they were out of one of our entrees. That was when we walked out and wandered over to Del Frisco's for a fabuous meal in a beautiful environment with amazing service. The manager at R2L never came by to talk with us. Had we stayed, the rest of our night would have been spent talking about the this terrible dining experience. Our 6th anniversary dinner was still great, and my husband and I enjoyed laughing about the abominable service at R2L. Possibly the food is good??? We will never know.

I went to R2L with my family for my graduation celebration. They opened especially for Penn graduation-and we were thrilled to get a reservation. We were all blown away by the view, and the atmosphere.
The food was not only beautiful, but delicious. My father actually took pictures of the onion soup! It looked like a piece of artwork. We shared the asparagus salad and the marinated olives, and loved both. We all ordered the short rid entree, which was incredible.
Because they were open on Sunday just for graduation, the full menu wasn't available that night.... I cant wait to go back and try more of what R2L has to offer!
The best in town!. I tried R2L at the recommendation of a co-worker. It was one of the best meals I've ever had. The menu is set up in a way so that you can try a lot of different things, which I love. The grilled truffle pizza was out of this world! I also loved to risotto balls. My steak was cooked to perfection. Even the bread that was served with dinner as awesome! The service was by far superior to most any establishment and the staff extremely friendly. I loved the atmosphere - not only the incredible view, but the ambiance from the crowded bar (which R2L definitely seems to be the place to "see and be seen") to the decor and music. I applaud R2L for showing its guests a true top-notch dining experience.
Can't Get Enough!. I went to R2L (again) last night and I just want everyone to know how much I love, love, love this place! The grilled truffle pizza is awesome! The view is incredible. The service impeccable (honestly, the best I've ever experienced, genuine and classy). The food is unbelievable. Mario...Emeril...you have some Stern competition!
Excellent!!. I loved R2L. I was fortunate to celebrate my 30th birthday here with friends and family and I couldn't have asked for a better evening. The service was excellent and the staff from the manager to the buser was amazing. The presentation and food were top-notch -- from the bread served at the table to the "snacks" and entrees, it was delicious. I could go on and on about our desserts. I will definitely be back to R2L and know they have late night which is a huge draw for me and my friends - great food until 1 AM at the bar! I highly recommend R2L.
Totes disappointed. I have to learn not to listen to people’s exaggerated reviews of new restaurants. I had high expectations of this very beautifully decorated space. When we were seated the waiter took our water order with the selection of sparkling, still, or Schuylkills finest but failed to ever take our drink order. When ordering our meals we had a hard time choosing from what seemed to be simple but delicious options. As a “snack” we ordered the Rabbit Nachos, followed by the Romaine Salad and Short Rib with a side of Macaroni & Cheese. My date had the Onion Soup and Ribeye with Fries. We asked for the “snack” to come out first but instead had the snack, soup and salad along with bread all delivered at once. The rabbit nachos had so much potential if not for the excess seasoning as well as the salad. Every bite felt like a salt lick. The short rib was full of flavor but felt heavy while the ribeye had no flavor at all. When coffee was served it required two servers and seemed like a big to do. The dessert was lovely a sour cream and walnut apple pie with thyme ice cream. Being it has only been open for a shot time I may return for a second chance.
You Must Visit R2L.
My friends and I had a top-notch experience at R2L. Our server - Thomas - was efficient and well-prepared for all of our questions. The food was perfect. My table ordered many of the "snacks" on the menu and would highly recommend the cocktail reubens (so clever!), grilled truffle flatbread (addictive!), and venison cheesesteaks (delish!). My entree, the salmon, was perfectly prepared and I loved the accompanying black truffle fries and mushroom sauce. The warm vanilla cake for dessert was impeccable.
I heard many things about R2L's bar - not only is it spectacular looking, but the bar staff was one of the most knowledgeable and friendly I've ever encountered. The specialty cocktails are shaken (or stirred!) to perfection. The bartenders show a lot of care when crafting each drink - from the huge ice block behind the bar where they chip ice - to asking you just the right questions when you can't make the decision on "what to order."
R2L is chic and sophisticated. When sitting in the zebra banquettes, you feel like you are on top of the world and Philadelphia's skyline has never looked more beautiful. I can't wait to return!
