The Westin Philadelphia hotel’s fine-dining bar/restaurant is fiercely committed to serving home-style food that honors the farmers and artisans who created its ingredients. You’ll find nary a preservative, growth hormone or chemical in the kitchen or behind the adjacent bar; instead you’ll sit down to a private or communal table rich with comforting foods slow cooked by a New Jersey native who still hand picks his produce at the same farmer’s market his grandmother took him to as a kid. That may be why the square, windowless dining room is decorated to resemble a grandma’s living room or maybe a grandpa’s study: dark wood paneling, subdued floral wallpaper, and carpet--complete with the jacketed, white-haired characters you might expect to see supping with the older generations of your family.
