Citysearch Editorial Review.
For most intents and purposes, this is a straight-ahead sports bar: eleven plasma flatscreens; NFL TV packages; rowdy South Philly sports fans; flowing beers on tap and more in the bottle; basic square layout with walls plastered with sports photos, banners and jerseys; an-in-house softball team; nightly and game-day specials and events; and a website that brags about its passion for all things that combine the words “Philly” and “ball” or “puck” (“cheerleader” works, too). However, there is nothing predictable about the quality of the food. Sure, the menu includes the usual (for Philly, anyway) sports-bar fare of sliders, pizza, wings, and mussels, but thanks to executive chef Angel Diaz (who’s worked under Jose Garces, Stephen Starr, Masaharu Morimoto, and Anthony Bourdain--like, hello, Anthony Bourdain!), the fare ventures into the territory of crab cakes, linguini, prime rib, steamers and hummus, all of which taste worthy of being served at any of the aforementioned chefs’ decidedly un-sports bar restaurants.
