This South Philly taproom talks like a restaurant but looks like a dive bar..
A dive-y ambience can be confusing to patrons expecting a restaurant, while the menu surprises the cocktail crowd. Suffice it to say, this business has a mixed identity. Ross Essner (of the defunct Django) churns out a schizophrenic array of salads, United Kingdom comfort foods, Asian meats, Caribbean chicken and so on. There's no official dining room, no coffee or dessert and only a few tiny rummage-sale tables that compete for space with a pool table and bar. But the regulars don't seem to mind at all, especially when drinking a draught Miller Lite or Dogfish Head IPA.
