Love...LOVE...LOVEEEE!. Have never heard of this salon before and being a new resident of Philadelphia, I have found my home away from home! I had purchased a Living Social $85 coupon for highlights with Maggie and cut with Janelle. Upon arrival I was treated like family, offered beverages and greeted with warm smiles. Maggie nailed my color on the head! I was impressed with the results beings typically you expect some kind of "catch" with coupons such as these, but to my surprise it was anything but! Janelle finished my short stay with AMS with a high end dry cut and style session, she was so personable and conversational, it really made me feel at home. I have never had a "go-to" salon that I had appreciated more than AMS Salon and Lounge, I will be returning on a regular basis!
Worst Experience across any Service Industry.
This place seemed like it only wanted to take my money, regardless of customer satisfaction or reputation. Beyond having my face & neck died dark brown from careless coloring, they also burned me with peroxide & were unbelievably rude. I would suggest never going here.

one word..... AMAZING.. This place makes my hair look AMAZING! and trust me... I'm not the type of gal with naturally amazing hair. Megan's color is lovely. My grays are always covered and my color always looks so natural. Jennifer and Alex are extraordinary with a pair of scissors. Not only do they do a lovely job, they are all so fun to hang out with in the process!
AMS SALON. If you want a better haircut and color than in nyc, come to this two level salon and lounge in center city philadelphia. Alex, Megan and Jennifer are always there. My experience usually consists of a haircut by Alex THE GREAT and Megan tops it off with her Best of Philly color. Jen is there for makeup haircut blowout or her famous updo's. Her eyebrows are famous as well. You will leave with a smile on your face...Megan is so funny you will feel like you visited a comedy club and hair salon in one.
AVOID,,,very disapointed. So, unfourunatly i am disapointed. The salon is nice, but kinda weird because it is so small and quite you feel like you are walking on eggshells. I told Alex what i wanted...however it didnt happen. My haircut was too short and really did not follow what i asked for. I honestly think he did what he wanted to do with no care as to what i explained and my dislikes of certain styles that i explained. I would not recomend this place, i paid over $100 with a cut and tip and am not happy. The salon like i said it strange, it doesnt feel like a salon. For $100 i would go somewhere else. Sorry to say this b/c i had high expectations.
Welcoming atmosphere, best blow-dry, amazing dry cuts, plenty of gossip mags and champagne.
After just one blow-dry at AMS Salon and Lounge, I had found my hair's new home and I am confident in stating that I think you will too. This is the first time that I have ever written a review but after becoming a regular client, I felt the need to write about it.
The lounge, just one flight up from 16th street, is warm and inviting. I can relax with a mimosa on a Saturday morning and catch up on celebrity gossip. Then, head up one more short flight to the swanky salon to get the best cut, color and blow-dry in the city.
I have had my hair cut by Jennifer several times and I have been extremely happy every time. The owner, Alex, gives the most amazing cuts and blow-drys. His blow-dry gave me the glamorous fullness that I have been wanting for so long. I don't color my hair but everytime I am there, ladies are raving about Megan's ability to give them perfected highlights. Someday, probably sooner than I'd like to admit, I will start going grey and quickly run to Megan to help me regain my youthful color.
AMS Salon and Lounge is truly the best in customer service, atmosphere and above all, TALENT. I have been there enough times now to see how happy and confident every client is when leaving the chair of Alex, Megan and Jennifer. I highly recommend you calling the salon today to schedule yourself for an appointment. I am so glad I found this place. A lot of high end salons can be intimidating but these folks definitely set you at ease and give you beautiful hair.
A Ukrainian-born powerhouse stylist opens shop in a two-floor Center City loft and takes a moniker that's thankfully not eponymous..
In Short
With a laundry list of A-list clients, Alex Molchadskiy goes out on his own after working in top New York and Philadelphia salons with a chic and inviting two-floor space above a Center City dress shop. Expert cuts culminate in stylish dos that don't work against you and do accentuate natural features. Award-winning colorist Megan Reilly expertly wields a tool bag of color processes from which to choose, including Balyage, and a rare technique of French-style hair painting.
