Best affordable restaurant in Philly

by futurechef

O.K first, disregard what the reviewer before said about the desserts here. According to Craig Laban, (Philadelphia Reviewer in the Philadelphia Inquirer) the owner used to be a pastry chef and the desserts are fantastic. Twice I had the key lime tart, and when I thought that it couldn't get any prettier or tastier, I went back the second time and it was even better. The Meringue was torched, and the presentation was fantastic. Watch out Food Network! O.K, now for the food. The food is excellent. Brunch is great, especially the french toast. The lunch menu is good too. A plentiful main course, BBQ roaster wings are unbelievably good, and these are no ordinary bar food wings. The sauce is clearly homemade with a variety of tomatoes and peppers, and the chicken is crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. They also serve up a great Sheppard's pie, and a few other good plates. The ambiance is fantastic; the place has light colors and a homey atmosphere opposed to those dark bars. They also have two wide screen high definition T.Vs which routinely play sports games.

  • Pros: What I earlier mentioned in my review

Great addition to the gastro-pub scene

by ChewyWellington

Went on a Saturday night for dinner and was impressed. Almost missed the entrance as it is located on a primarily residential block. The restaurant had a warm feeling to it and pleanty of people were eating at the bar in addition to the tables. The menu was more than traditional pub fare. It had classics such as sheppard's pie but also had modern takes on empanadas and quesadillas. All were were executed. The steak salad ordered at our table was mildly disappointing in comparision to the other items.

Dessert choices were lame - more of a place for a hearty meal than a late night dessert. Also slightly disappointed by server's beer suggestion. However, classy pub style atmosphere. this hidden gem is worth the visit.

  • Pros: Great food
  • Cons: No reservations (I think)
